What we need: Carrington West are pleased to be assisting our client to find experienced and talented technician for a highways materials testing laboratory. We need both site sample collecting technicians and material testing lab technicians. What they do: The Laboratory provides a comprehensive testing service for civil engineering materials and workmanship. The lab check material compliance against appropriate specifications and also help determine maintenance priorities through the collection of highway condition data. What you will do: Working in the Laboratory, on-site or on the live highway, you'll be responsible for sampling, testing and reporting on the quality of various highway/civil engineering materials and associated workmanship. You will also undertake visual and mechanical surveys of highway attributes and condition. What you will need to succeed: Previous lab experience working with civil engineering materials such as asphalts, concretes and highway surfaces. You will be educated to GCSE level or equivalent in Maths, English and/or Science subjects, you will have experience of working in a technical environment and knowledge of basic quality control procedures. You must be able to meet the travel requirements and physical demands of the role. This includes some lifting and driving a vehicle with license is imperative. You must be prepared to do some night time and weekend work when required. What you will get in return: Working in fantastic location with an already talented and experienced team, you will be paid £25'000 - £30,000 + 30% uplift for nights + 50% uplift for overtime. About the role This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the team that manages and improves one of the busiest motorways in Europe - the M25. We are looking for a TUNNEL MAINTENANCE CIVIL OPERATIVE to join us to work in Hatfield. Role Purpose: * To assist in the efficient operation of the M25 Tunnels and the M25 Pump Stations by undertaking maintenance and other tasks as required by the Maintenance Supervisor. Senior Bridge Design Engineer You will play an important role in a small team of engineers and technicians to design and deliver a range of projects and functions to maintain this important asset, to agreed budgets and programmes. Youll: * Lead preparation of designs for a wide variety of bridge replacement, strengthening and maintenance schemes in close collaboration with our client to identify and meet the project objectives. * Line manage and/or mentor some staff within the team, ensuring work is planned and undertaken safely and efficiently. * Implement a variety of highway structures schemes from 'cradle to grave', within budget, to programme and in compliance with quality, safety and environmental objectives, including liaison with internal and external stakeholders. * Assist in other structures asset management activities such as inspections, review of third party designs, structural assessments, maintenance prioritisation etc. * Work closely with project managers and other local team members to provide technical support to a variety of highway and transport schemes. * Assist in the training and development of our trainee and graduate engineers. Were looking for: * Substantial experience in highway structures inspection, maintenance, design, asset management and construction. * Experience of working collaboratively with clients, contractors, stakeholders and multidiscipline design teams. * Good working knowledge of Design Manual for Roads and Bridges/Specification for Highway Works/Eurocodes relating to the design and maintenance of highway structures. * Experience of mentoring bridge engineers, graduates and technicians. * Proficient in the use of structural analysis & design software (e.g. LUSAS, TEDDS, RING & AutoCAD). * A relevant Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent. * Chartered Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers or equivalent professional qualification. * Excellent interpersonal skills and a team player with a 'can do' approach. Highways Maintenance Technician Introduction We are looking to recruit a Highways Maintenance Technician on a contract with Shropshire Council. The successful candidate should have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in construction or highway environment. The Role The Highways Operations team is tasked with managing the day to day activities on the Highway ensuring that the highway remains safe and fit for purpose. Highway maintenance technicians respond to customer service requests, undertake scoping and quoting processes in line with contractual requirements, monitor contractor performance and develop programmes for routine maintenance programmes such as lines, signs, cleansing and drainage. Role of a Highways Maintenance Technician The post holder is responsible for the liaison with contractors and/or consultants representatives, compliance with contractual requirements, quality of data input on Confirm, management of contractual process, efficient ordering of works and services in line with agreed contract processes and financial management. The post holder will also act as service wide liaison with their designated Cllrs, act as point of contact, regularly meet and inform on future service wide works that will impact on their local community.
