Job Description

Position Overview

The Maintenance Carpenter is responsible for performing carpentry-related maintenance, repairs, and installation work across buildings, structures, and facilities. The role ensures the ongoing safety, compliance, and functionality of building assets through both planned and reactive maintenance activities.



Key Responsibilities

Maintenance, Repairs & Installation

  • Carry out general carpentry works including framing, partitions, doors, windows, cabinetry, skirting, flooring, and ceiling repairs.

  • Perform reactive and preventative maintenance across buildings and facilities.

  • Install and repair structural and non-structural timber components.

  • Repair or replace damaged fixtures, fittings, and building elements.

  • Conduct minor formwork, concreting, and basic building repair tasks as required.

  • Assist with minor plumbing, tiling, plastering, or painting work within competency levels.



Compliance & Safety

  • Work in accordance with WHS/OHS legislation, building codes (e.g., NCC/BCA), and company safety policies.

  • Complete risk assessments, JSA/SWMS, and permits to work where required.

  • Identify and report hazards, defects, and unsafe conditions.

  • Maintain tools, equipment, and workspaces in safe operating condition.



Technical Requirements

  • Read and interpret building plans, technical drawings, and specifications.

  • Use hand tools, power tools, and carpentry machinery safely and efficiently.

  • Measure, cut, shape, and assemble materials to required standards and tolerances.

  • Work with timber, composite materials, plasterboard, and other building products.



Documentation & Reporting

  • Complete work orders, maintenance records, and asset documentation in the CMMS or logbook.

  • Provide accurate updates on work progress, required materials, and outstanding defects.

  • Assist in planning and sequencing tasks for maintenance programs.



Customer Service & Teamwork

  • Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders, tenants, clients, or facility users.

  • Work collaboratively with other trades (plumbing, electrical, HVAC, painting).

  • Provide technical guidance to apprentices or less experienced staff if required.
