Job Description

Transport Planner - Portsmouth
Salary: 28,000 - 40,000 (DOE) + benefits
Location: Portsmouth (hybrid flexibility)

I am recruiting on behalf of a respected development planning consultancy in Portsmouth that is looking to appoint a Transport Planner as part of its continued growth.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with early-career experience in transport planning (typically 1-4 years) who is keen to further develop their technical capability and gain exposure to a wide variety of development projects across the South and the wider UK.

The Role

You will join a collaborative transport planning team working on a broad mix of development-led schemes across residential, commercial, education, leisure and mixed-use sectors. The successful candidate will contribute to the delivery of technical assessments, analysis and reports to support planning applications.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Preparation of Transport Assessments, Transport Statements and Travel Plans

  • Junction capacity modelling (e.g. Junctions 9, PICADY, ARCADY)

  • Use of TRICS and other industry datasets

  • Data analysis, technical report writing and feasibility inputs

  • Liaison with clients, local authorities and project stakeholders

About You

To be considered for this role, you should:

  • Have early-career experience in transport planning (placement, graduate role or 1-4 years' experience)

  • Be familiar with development planning tasks and relevant software tools

  • Have strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Demonstrate an interest in sustainable transport and high-quality placemaking

  • Hold a degree in Transport Planning, Geography, Civil Engineering or a related discipline

What's on Offer

This consultancy is recognised for its supportive, people-focused culture. You will benefit from:

  • A clear, personalised career development pathway

  • Ongoing training and support towards professional qualifications (CIHT, TPS or similar)

  • A friendly, sociable and collaborative working environment

  • Hybrid working and a modern office setting

  • Competitive salary and benefits package

This role will suit someone who enjoys variety, values early responsibility, and wants to join a consultancy where development and progression are genuinely encouraged.
