Stone masonry Apprenticeship
We are currently looking for an ambitious candidate to take up an apprenticeship in stone masonry, within the construction industry.
The apprenticeship offers the opportunity to gain a wide range of experience onsite and involvement in the day to day running of a stonemason, including dressing stone and building stone.
Apprentices will attend college up to twice a week, to gain more knowledge, understanding and experience to allow them to successfully work towards and complete their stone masonry apprenticeship.
The final year of the apprenticeship consists of onsite training and skills test. Candidates should be enthusiastic, willing to learn and committed to their chosen career.
Unfortunately, there is a skills shortage in the industry and this work-based course ensures that staff needs meet national standards. Stone masonry is considered a very specialist craft, and one of the most interesting trades to get involved with.
As a stonemason you would use your skills to carve architectural features, cut and shape blocks, or lay and fit stonework into place on construction projects. As a banker mason you would follow design instructions to carve and shape stone, and give it a textured or polished finish (known as dressing) using hand and power tools.
There are two pathways available:
Banker – this is carving and shaping stone.
Fixer – this is erecting and fixing stone.
Many students progress from the Apprenticeship to the Advanced Apprenticeship. There is then the opportunity to progress to higher level courses such as the National Certificate or National Diploma in Construction.
Candidate requirements:
- 18-20 Years of age
- Willing to learn, and gain knowledge within the industry
- CSCS card
- Eligible to live/ work in the UK
- Site experience is a bonus
If you feel you are the right candidate for the apprenticeship, please apply within, or otherwise call Harry on 02037141140
