Assistant Site Manager 140-Unit Residential Development (Cheltenham)

Location: Cheltenham, Gloucestershire
Type: Freelance to Permanent
Start: Immediate / November start
Rate: £250 £300 per day

About the Project

We re working with a leading residential developer delivering a flagship 140-unit housing scheme in Cheltenham. The project includes a mix of 2-, 3- and 4-bed homes built to a high specification, with construction well underway and multiple phases programmed through 2026.

Due to continued growth, we re looking for an Assistant Site Manager to join the team on a freelance basis, with a clear route to a permanent position once performance milestones are met.

Role Overview

As Assistant Site Manager, you ll support the Site Manager and Project Lead in all day-to-day site operations, ensuring work is completed safely, on time, and to the required quality standards. This role is ideal for someone looking to step up within a fast-moving residential environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in managing all site activities across multiple housing phases (c. 140 units).

  • Coordinate subcontractors, trades, materials, and logistics.

  • Maintain site documentation, inductions, and daily reports.

  • Uphold the highest standards of health, safety, and environmental compliance.

  • Support programme tracking, quality checks, and snagging.

  • Liaise with the commercial and technical teams to resolve design or sequencing issues.

  • Take ownership of smaller plots or phases as experience grows.

Requirements

  • Previous experience as an Assistant Site Manager or strong Finishing Foreman on housing developments.

  • SMSTS or SSSTS, CSCS, and First Aid certifications.

  • Experience delivering new build housing schemes (ideally 50+ units).

  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.

  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

  • Local to Cheltenham or within a reasonable commute.
