As part of the TÜV family, TÜV Rheinland Industrial Services (TRIS) are looking for a Civil/Structural Inspection Engineer to work as an associate for our prestigious client for 6 months of the year for 3 years.
Job Summary
We are seeking motivated and detail-oriented Inspection Engineers to join our inspection team responsible for condition surveys across a portfolio of over 1,000 structures throughout the UK. Working as part of a two-person inspection team, you will undertake detailed visual condition assessments of bridges, culverts, and related structures, identifying and recording structural defects and deterioration in concrete, steel, and masonry components.
The role requires a high level of accuracy and attention to detail in preparing inspection reports, photographs, and sketches, providing essential information to support the asset management and maintenance of our infrastructure network.
This is a site-based position involving regular travel across the UK. You will typically work away from home for up to three days per week (Monday Wednesday) during the inspection season (September March). All accommodation, travel, and subsistence expenses are provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct detailed visual inspections of bridges, culverts, and associated structures in accordance with relevant standards and company procedures.
- Identify and record structural defects such as cracking, corrosion, spalling, scour and deformation.
- Prepare comprehensive and accurate inspection reports using standard templates and digital recording systems.
- Capture site photographs, produce clear defect sketches, and maintain precise and consistent record-keeping.
- Work effectively within a two-person inspection team to deliver daily and weekly work programmes.
- Liaise with project engineers and the Principal Engineer for technical guidance and report review.
- Comply with all site health and safety requirements, including the proper use of PPE and adherence to safe access arrangements.
- Support project planning, scheduling, and report quality reviews where required.
Qualifications
- Minimum requirement, HNC or HND in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Good understanding of structural materials (concrete, steel, masonry) and common deterioration mechanisms.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work.
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Willingness to travel and stay away from home up to three nights per week (typically Monday Wednesday).
- Full UK driving licence.

Desirable Skills (Not Essential)
- Previous experience in bridge, structural, or highway asset inspection.
- Familiarity with inspection standards (e.g., CS450, CS451, etc.).
- CCNSG Safety Passport.
- Working in Water Training.
- Experience using inspection or asset management software.
- Ability to read and interpret structural drawings and use AutoCAD
