Job Description

Are you ready to take ownership of exciting projects while enjoying the stability and backing of a major construction group? We're recruiting for an ambitious Quantity Surveyor ready to advance their career or Senior Quantity Surveyor to join a highly respected contractor with a 30+ year track record of delivering new build, refurbishment and fit-out schemes across the UK.

With projects typically valued up to 30m, they work across the education, leisure, healthcare and commercial sectors - combining the professionalism of a tier one contractor with the agility and personal touch of a regional builder.

The Role

Your first project will be a new build school extension in Durham, where you'll oversee the full commercial lifecycle - from early procurement and cost planning through to contract administration and final accounts.

You'll split your time between site and office, giving you both hands-on project involvement and the ability to shape the commercial strategy. Beyond this scheme, you'll gain exposure to a varied pipeline of work, including leisure centres, university buildings, healthcare facilities and commercial refurbishments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Full commercial management of projects up to 30m in value

  • Leading procurement of subcontractors, materials and professional services

  • Preparing and managing budgets, valuations, variations and cost reports

  • Negotiating, managing and closing out final accounts

  • Driving value engineering and cost efficiency while maintaining quality

  • Ensuring compliance with contracts and group policies

  • Building strong, lasting relationships with clients, consultants and the supply chain

About You

  • Experienced Quantity Surveyor or Senior QS, ideally with main contractor background

  • Previous exposure to education, leisure or commercial projects would be an advantage

  • Confident with contracts, procurement, budgets and negotiations

  • Strong communicator who thrives in a collaborative team environment

  • Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or similar

What's on Offer

  • Up to 75,000 salary depending on experience

  • Comprehensive benefits package including pension and car allowance

  • Blend of office and site-based working for variety and balance

  • Career progression within a secure, growing contractor that invests in its people

  • The chance to deliver meaningful projects in the education and public sector that make a real difference to communities

This role is ideal for someone who wants more than "just another QS job" - it's an opportunity to be part of a contractor with strong values, repeat clients, and the resources to help you grow your career.
