Design Manager Summary
We are seeking an experienced Design Manager to lead and manage the design delivery of projects within the AMP 8 Framework, specifically focusing on foul water drainage systems. The successful candidate will oversee the full design lifecycle, ensuring that design solutions are cost-effective, buildable, and compliant with industry standards and regulations. This role requires strong collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, supply chain partners, and clients to deliver high-quality, sustainable designs that meet project objectives. The Design Manager will be responsible for managing design scope, programmes, quality assurance, and design changes while maintaining compliance with CDM regulations and BIM standards. Experience within United Utilities AMP 8 Framework and foul water drainage is essential.
Skills
- Extensive experience in design management within the AMP 8 Framework
- Proven expertise in foul water drainage systems
- Strong knowledge of design delivery, procurement, and control
- Understanding of CDM (2015) Regulations and health & safety compliance
- Ability to manage multidisciplinary design teams and supply chain collaboration
- Experience in quality assurance and BIM implementation to ISO 19650 standards
- Commercial and contractual awareness, including NEC4 contracts
- Programme preparation and management skills
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities
- Capability to deliver sustainable, low carbon, and buildable design solutions
Software/Tools
- BIM software compliant with ISO 19650 (e.g., Revit, Navisworks)
- Project management and design coordination tools
Certifications & Standards
- Degree or HNC/HND in Civil Engineering or related discipline
- Membership or working towards membership of a recognised engineering institution (e.g., IEng, CEng)
- Familiarity with CDM (2015) Regulations
- Knowledge of NEC4 suite of contracts
