Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Steel Erecting Supervisor with a proven background in power station and heavy industrial environments. The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising steel erection and associated works, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality installation of structural steel and pipework supports in line with project requirements, engineering specifications, and health & safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate site teams involved in structural steel erection and heavy industrial pipework support installations.
- Ensure works are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to quality standards.
- Review and interpret drawings, RAMS, and technical specifications to plan daily activities.
- Liaise with project engineers, planners, and subcontractors to align steel erection with overall construction programme.
- Ensure lifting operations and erection sequences comply with safe working practices, LOLER, PUWER, and industry regulations.
- Monitor and record progress, labour hours, and material usage for reporting to site management.
- Conduct toolbox talks, safety briefings, and ensure workforce compliance with permit-to-work systems.
- Oversee installation tolerances, bolting, welding, and final alignments, ensuring compliance with QA/QC requirements.
- Coordinate with pipework and mechanical teams to manage interface works in congested industrial environments.
- Identify and escalate risks, delays, or technical issues to the Construction Manager.
- Mentor and support junior supervisors and operatives to maintain high standards of workmanship and safety.
Essential Requirements
- Proven experience as a Supervisor in steel erection within power stations, refineries, petrochemical, or heavy industrial environments.
- Strong understanding of structural steelwork, pipework supports, lifting operations, and mechanical interfaces.
- Valid CSCS / CCNSG Safety Passport.
- SSSTS / SMSTS qualification (Site Supervisor/Manager Safety Training Scheme).
- Experience managing teams of steel erectors, riggers, and welders.
- Excellent knowledge of health & safety legislation and safe systems of work.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and erection plans.
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
Desirable Qualifications
- NVQ Level 3/4 in Steel Erection or Supervisory qualification.
- CPCS or NPORS Appointed Person / Lift Supervisor certification.
- Experience working on new build power generation projects or large industrial shutdowns.
- First Aid at Work certification.
