Our client, a well-established civil engineering contractor, is seeking to appoint an experienced Senior Estimator to join their Newcastle office. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to the delivery of major infrastructure and energy projects across the North of England. It is an excellent opportunity for an accomplished professional to apply their expertise to complex civil engineering schemes at the forefront of the sector.

As a Senior Estimator, you will take a lead role in preparing accurate cost estimates from first principles, identifying project requirements and associated risks. Working in close collaboration with senior management, you will be instrumental in developing competitive bids and securing future work for the business.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage the preparation of tenders, ensuring the effective administration of all documentation.
• Liaise with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors to obtain competitive and best-value quotations.
• Identify and assess project risks and opportunities at the pre-contract stage.
• Oversee the estimating process from initial enquiry through to final tender submission.
• Prepare and review detailed cost plans, budgets, and cashflow forecasts.
• Develop comprehensive work packages and negotiate agreement with end clients.
• Carry out take-offs from drawings and compile cost-effective tenders from first principles.
• Produce clear, well-structured tender submissions and supporting estimation reports.
• Provide commercial input during proposal development, working closely with the contract management team.
• Coordinate estimating activities across multiple live and forthcoming projects.
• Maintain strong collaboration with project managers and site teams to ensure cost and programme alignment.

Candidate Requirements:

• A degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• Demonstrable track record of producing accurate cost plans and pricing from first principles.
• Significant estimating experience within the civil engineering sector.
• Strong knowledge of frameworks, competitive tenders, and negotiated contracts.
• Proficiency with estimating software such as Conquest and digital take-off tools.
• Excellent commercial awareness, analytical skills, and attention to detail.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to negotiate effectively.
• A methodical and organised approach, capable of working under pressure to meet deadlines.
