Job Purpose
We are looking for an Estimator to join our client’s fast-paced and growing team in Sussex. As an Estimator in the growing team, you’ll enjoy a varied role estimating for highways groundworks, civils and surfacing projects.
Our clients’ estimators establish strong relationships with their customers. Together with their quantity surveyors and project managers, they are the main points of contact for members of the public, site managers, customers and other external stakeholders.
Position summary
Key responsibilities:
Estimation, business development & customer service:
Assist in the pricing of tenders, performing take-offs and compiling tender documents for review by Estimators and Senior Estimators
Provide client quotations
Deal with customer enquiries
Keep customers informed of everything they need to know
Develop long-term friendly and professional relationships with customers
Provide appropriate advice, using specialist knowledge to help customers
Interpret orders into a work programme
Schedule and plan
Make site and client visits
Handle complaints within agreed parameters
Developing sales:
Proactively help clients to select from the company’s product range and suggest alternative products where required
Provide relevant feedback to management and colleagues, sharing insight on competitors, customer needs, sales leads, and opportunities to work more effectively
Promote the company’s values
Support growth and development in the business
Adhere to all company policies and systems – including health & safety and environmental issues
Go to sites, take measurements, levels etc. and check on the progress of customer orders
Requirements:
2-3 years’ experience in estimating construction/highways projects or a Quantity Surveying
background with a view to moving in to estimating
Professional, friendly and approachable attitude
Results-driven and motivated
Meticulous attention to detail
Computer-literate
Previous surfacing and small civils experience (desirable)
Relevant health and safety qualifications (desirable)
Clear of alcohol and drugs when reporting for work (a regular testing programme is in place)

The Estimator will be joining their experienced work winning team and supporting them with an increasing pipeline of tender activity that is anticipated through the rest of 2022 and 2023.
The Estimator will be joining a well regarded business that typically works on large civil engineering and infrastructure projects across the UK. These projects are often valued at more than £300m and some of their recent and up and coming projects have included a bored tunnel for power utilities in London, a tunnel below a major UK waterway and by-pass around an important heritage site and a tunnel in an AONB to install power cables. Some of the Estimators duties will include:
Inform the Bid Manager of inputs required to assist in compiling a competitive price
Assist and contribute with the development of the companies tender strategy
Provide advice to the design & bid teams on cost effective design options
Produce competitive prices use methodologies and outputs to suit the projects conditions and situation
Develop activity schedules/BoQ Structures and client pricing documents
Support other estimators and the wider work winning team where possible
The Estimator will be given an opportunity to gain exposure to large, complex yet exciting civil engineering and infrastructure projects. You'll also be offered a competitive salary & package that includes:
Starting salary of £60,000 to £70,000
