Parkinson Gray Associates
Intermediate Electrical Designer - Building services
Parkinson Gray Associates Woolston, Warrington
Parkinson Gray Associates delivers a proven service to some of the leading Consulting Engineering and Contracting businesses within the British construction industry, predominantly across the Building Services, Energy and Sustainability sectors. We re partnering with an independent Building Services consultancy with a broader engineering capability covering MEP design, sustainability, building physics, BIM, building surveying and utility infrastructure. They are now looking to appoint an Intermediate Electrical Designer within their Warrington office. Salary: £40,000 £48,000 + benefits (dependent on experience) Sector: Building Services / MEP Design Consultancy Employment Type: Full-time, Hybrid Working Available Location: Warrington This is an opportunity to join an engineering business where Electrical, Mechanical, Public Health, Sustainability and BIM sit within the same consultancy. The business has been built around practical engineering and sustainable building design, with senior people bringing experience from both consulting engineering and the contracting side of the industry. That gives the team a good understanding of what works on paper and what can actually be delivered. The project work is varied, with experience across residential, retail, logistics, manufacturing, education and commercial environments. The electrical work ranges from core building services design through to more involved infrastructure and coordination requirements. Why This Consultancy Stands Out The difference here is the breadth of engineering available under one roof. Electrical engineers work alongside Mechanical, Public Health, Sustainability and BIM specialists, with the wider building performance of a project forming part of the design process. The business has particular capability around sustainable building design, including energy analysis, building performance, low-carbon design and net-zero strategies. Its BIM team also supports projects through 3D modelling, design validation, coordination, constructability review and performance analysis. For an Electrical Designer, that creates exposure to more than the electrical package itself. You'll see how electrical demand is affected by mechanical systems, how utility requirements are assessed at an early stage, how energy strategies influence system selection and how coordinated BIM information is developed as a project progresses. The consultancy also works across the building life cycle, including new-build projects, existing buildings, surveys and refurbishment-related work. That variety means the electrical challenges aren't limited to producing a standard design for a standard building. The Role As an Intermediate Electrical Designer, you'll be responsible for developing electrical building services designs across a range of projects and supporting the Senior Engineers and wider project team. You'll be involved from early design through to detailed design, producing technical information and taking ownership of defined electrical packages. The role will cover both the design work itself and the coordination required to make that design work within the wider project. What You'll Work On • Electrical Building Services design through relevant RIBA design stages. • LV distribution and electrical infrastructure. • Small power and lighting systems. • Containment, controls and electrical services associated with mechanical plant. • Fire alarm, data, communications and other specialist electrical systems where required. • Electrical calculations, specifications, drawings and technical reports. • Revit-based electrical modelling and BIM coordination. • Coordination with Mechanical, Public Health, Sustainability and BIM engineers. • Load assessment and consideration of electrical capacity and utility requirements. • Contributing to energy-efficient and low-carbon electrical solutions. • Reviewing and developing designs as projects progress from concept through to detailed design. • Taking responsibility for individual electrical packages and resolving technical issues with support from senior engineers. Who This Will Suit • Around 3 5 years' experience within UK Building Services consultancy. • Experience designing electrical systems for commercial, residential, retail, industrial, logistics, education or similar buildings. • Good working knowledge of LV distribution, lighting, small power and associated electrical services. • Experience producing electrical calculations, specifications and coordinated design information. • Comfortable working with Revit and within a BIM-led design environment. • Able to coordinate your work with Mechanical, Public Health and other engineering disciplines. • Familiar with relevant British Standards, CIBSE guidance and UK Building Services design practice. • Comfortable taking responsibility for your own design packages while working with Senior Engineers on larger projects. • An interest in sustainable design, energy performance and the move towards lower-carbon buildings would be valuable. • CIBSE membership or a route towards professional registration would be advantageous but isn't essential. What's on Offer • £40,000 £48,000 + benefits, dependent on experience. • Hybrid working from the Warrington office. • A varied Building Services project portfolio across multiple sectors. • Electrical work covering both core MEP design and wider infrastructure requirements. • Direct exposure to Mechanical, Public Health, Sustainability and BIM specialists. • Revit and BIM-led project delivery. • Exposure to building performance, energy analysis and decarbonisation alongside conventional electrical design. • The opportunity to work within an independent consultancy where the engineering disciplines sit closely together. • Responsibility for your own electrical packages with support from experienced senior engineers. If you're an Electrical Design Engineer with the experience outlined above and you're open to hearing about a consultancy where you can take on more responsibility and work on technically demanding projects, get in touch for a confidential discussion. Apply now or contact Parkinson Gray Associates for more information. Please note: Applicants must have an existing and unrestricted right to work in the UK.
