Senior Project Manager
£30m RC frame & groundwork package in Watford, Hertfordshire
£80,000 - £100,000 per annum / £350 - £450 per day (PAYE or Self Employed)
About the Opportunity:
We have been asked to find a specialist Project Manager / Senior Project Manager that is capable of delivering a £30m RC Frame & Groundwork package in Watford, Hertfordshire.
Individuals will need to have a strong understanding of everything from piling, groundworks, foundations, basement construction and multi storey concrete frame construction (including slip-form ideally), while working on a mixture of residential and mixed-use projects in London. I do need to stipulate; I can only consider individuals who have worked for RC frame & groundwork subcontractors. I cannot consider those from a main contract or developer background.
Usual duties will apply from overall management of the site team, technical and engineering management of the programme and works, through to management of the client and surrounding aspects (i.e. health & safety, temporary works and client meetings).
About the Company:
Established over 25 years ago and based out of their head office in Surrey, this £120 million turnover business specialises in Concrete Frames, Groundworks and Basement Construction. With satellite offices in the South West, they have a strong coverage of projects with package values ranging from £5 million up to £50 million each (currently), covering the residential, commercial, leisure and education sectors. We have been preferred suppliers to this company for well over 10 years and maintain a strong relationship with all the directors of the business.
What sets this business apart is their focus on safety and rewarding their staff;
The MD takes an active role in the safety department making sure it is at the forefront of everything they do, and no not just to please clients but most importantly to make sure every person goes home safely at the end of every day. He is proud to stand by their safety record and the constant measures they take to maintain and improve this department.
In addition to safety, the focus on rewarding their staff is demonstrated in the constant career development that is offered and the targeted bonus structures that are in place for all the management team. For instance, the project management bonus is several thousand pound and is paid twice a year. This is measured on a quarterly basis based on certain key performance indicators such as safety, programme deadlines and commercial statistics. This gives each PM a real gauge of what they have to do to earn each bonus and it is worth pointing out, every PM is hitting above 80% of their bonus. This is a simple example of how targeted clear reward structures benefit the individual but also the company as a whole.
About the Rewards:
This business offers above average packages to ensure their staff are happy with their income and beyond this, to ensure they see this as a long term move when joining the company. Stability of employment and maintaining a low staff turnover is important in line with everything this business stands for.
For this position we have been given a rough bracket of £80,000 to £100,000 per annum as the salary which will also include a car allowance, standard benefits and the structured bonus scheme.
For individuals looking for a self-employed payment method, we can also offer rates in the region of £350 to £450 per day plus the bonus scheme (and possibly holiday pay).
About the Requirements:
Suitable individuals need to be degree qualified in civil engineering or construction management and will be able to show a strong history from a site engineer through to management over the last 5-10+ years.
It is crucial that professionals can show a strong amount of concrete frame and groundwork construction background having worked for rival concrete frame and groundwork subcontractors in the UK.
Regarding software, our client uses the usual Microsoft programmes, standard email functions and Asta Power Project for planning / programming works. Project Managers will be required to use all these tools.
How to Apply:
I am more than happy to discuss this opportunity with people over the phone or when the time is right, face to face in a fully confidential manner. This is an incestuous sector and I fully understand the importance of keeping things discrete.
Alternatively, it would be ideal to see a copy of your CV to understand your previous experience and employment. In line with GDPR, nothing will be done with your CV / details until we have discussed the role in detail anyway, but having gained an understanding of your formal past, this may help when we come to talk and discuss the option.

About Me, Your Consultant:
My name is Andrew Jackson and I am one of the founding directors of Cityscape Recruitment Ltd. I have over 17 years of experience in civil engineering & construction recruitment, during which time, I have specialised in the niche sectors of concrete frames, groundworks, basement construction, and demolition.
So, what does that mean for you? It means you won’t be trusting your career to a rookie salesperson who’s just out to place you wherever he/she can. I work with the vast majority of the groundwork & concrete frame businesses in the UK and I can help not only introduce you but can give you up-to-date information on each of them (the good parts and the less positive parts – none of them are perfect, but some are pretty close), helping you make an informed decision so you can take your career forward. I’ve been doing this for a fair while now and I’ve maintained a positive reputation doing what I do because I don’t tell people false truths. I tell them everything I know and then let them choose. My job is to get you the options you want, give you the information you need, and then let you decide what feels right for you

What sets this business apart is their focus on safety and rewarding their staff;

Quantity Surveyor – Concrete Frames or Groundworks
London & Southern Home Counties Projects
£50,000 to £80,000 + Package
About the Opportunity:
I am looking for two Quantity Surveyors that are interested in joining a growing concrete frame and groundwork subcontractor based on the borders of Essex and East London with offices also near Gatwick. Your position in the business will report either directly to the commercial director or to a commercial manager (depending on your level of experience) and you will be responsible for overseeing either one individual project or a selection of concrete frame or groundwork packages from precontract stages through to the final account. There is room for progression with this business as they are currently turning over around £130 million but plans for the coming years will see them growing well beyond this. They already have their turnover secured for 2023. We are looking for career-focused individuals who want the opportunity to be part of a close-knit team that is all working towards building a great business in this competitive sector.
So, if you are an experienced groundwork or concrete frame quantity surveyor and you want to join a growing business with lots of opportunities for people to develop, this could be the perfect option.
About the Company:
Like many other businesses in this sector, this organisation was formed from two leading directors from previous businesses that joined forces to create something new. The business has a specialist housebuilding groundworks division but the bulk of their work is and always will be focused around the residential concrete frame and groundwork sector. With strong ties to clients such as Bellway, Redrow, Berkeley’s, Barratt’s, and Countryside, this business is growing year on year and is looking to recruit now to help develop the team. It is this growth that will bring opportunity, as those who have aspirations to develop their own careers and possibly manage others, will be given the opportunity as the company climbs.
Also, having met the MD myself, I can add that the clear vision for the business is to offer an exceptional service, with quality and safety at the forefront while focusing on maintaining and strengthening the relationships they have with some of the best developers in town. I walked away from a meeting with them recently excited about their future and impressed by where they are already and since then I’ve had numerous people asking me about them. They have quickly become the one to watch and the one people want to join.
About the Requirements:
To be successful individuals need to have worked for rival groundwork or concrete frame subcontractors in the UK as a Quantity Surveyor. Your hard work will be rewarded and opportunity will be there but this previous experience in this sector is a must. Due to the technical nature of the position, it is also crucial that all applicants are degree qualified in quantity surveying or commercial management. And due to the location of our client’s office, it is also advisable that applicants are based in or around Essex, Kent, South London or the southern home counties to make the journey to either of their offices a sensible one. Travel in and around town will be expected for site visits but it is expected that a certain proportion of time will be at the office.
About the Benefits:
For this opportunity, I am targeting anyone looking to earn between £50,000 to £80,000 per annum. This bracket is flexible and starting figures will be based on experience and previous history but in addition to this our client is offering a comprehensive package including the usual’s such as pension but also a structured bonus scheme.
If you would prefer a self-employed payment method, we can consider people on a limited company basis with pay rates averaging around £250 to £350 per day. But aside from the earning potential, this opportunity really does offer the right person an exciting career option with a fantastic organisation.
How to Apply:
I am more than happy to discuss this opportunity with people over the phone or face to face in a fully confidential manner (you can get to know me while I get to know you). And I know this is an incestuous sector and I fully understand the importance of keeping things discrete.
Alternatively, it would be ideal to see a copy of your CV to understand your previous experience and employment. In line with GDPR, nothing will be done with your CV/details until we have discussed the role in detail anyway, but having gained an understanding of your formal past, this may help when we come to talk and discuss the option.

Contracts Manager
RC Frame & Groundworks Subcontractor
London Projects
£90,000 - £130,000 + Package
About the Company
Established over 25 years ago, this £120 million turnover business specialises in Concrete Frames, Groundworks and Basement Construction. With satellite offices in the South West and the Midlands they have a strong coverage of projects with package values ranging from £5 million up to £35 million each (currently), covering the residential, commercial, leisure and education sectors. We have been preferred suppliers to this company for over 10 years and maintain a strong relationship with all the directors of the business.
The MD takes an active role in the safety department making sure it is at the forefront of everything they do, not only to please clients but most importantly to make sure every person goes home safely at the end of every day. He is proud to stand by their safety record and the constant measures they take to maintain and improve this department.
In addition to safety, the focus on rewarding their staff is demonstrated in the constant career development that is offered and the targeted bonus structures that are in place for all the management and commercial teams. For instance, the project management bonus is several thousand pound and is paid twice a year. This is measured on a quarterly basis based on certain key performance indicators such as safety, programme deadlines and commercial statistics. This gives each PM a real gauge of what they have to do to earn each bonus and it is worth pointing out, every PM is hitting above 85% of their bonus which in turn equates to the contracts manager overseeing these projects receiving their bonus as well. This is a simple example of how targeted clear reward structures benefit the individual but also the company as a whole.
About the Opportunity
We have been asked to recruit a Contracts Manager for this company. The role will include the usual duties associated with managing a selection of live projects (usually between 3-5 schemes at different stages of completion), while reporting to the company directors (primarily the operations director and MD).
Day to day duties will include overseeing individual site teams, which will be headed up with project managers and site managers, making sure they are reporting any potential risks or issues, are staying on time / programme whilst also maintaining costs. This role will also be client facing as you will be expected to liaise with clients on each project to represent the company, making sure client’s specifications are being met and they are happy from the preconstruction phase all the way through to delivery.
The locations of projects this role will oversee will mainly be based inside London, but depending on where the successful applicant is based (i.e. where you live), there may also be the possibility of some projects in the surrounding home counties, so the successful individual will need to manage their time working around this area across a maximum of 5 jobs at any one time.
This exciting opportunity is to head-up the sub & superstructure side of the business so individuals need to be very experienced in this aspect as our client is only looking to consider applicants from a civil engineering background so that a strong technical understanding is there when interacting with direct staff and client contacts.
About the Benefits and Rewards
The basic salary offered for this position is £90,000 - £130,000 per annum depending on the level of exposure in this sector, especially experience with superstructure engineering. To add to this, a strong bonus scheme and benefits package will also be included for the successful individual. These package details will be discussed at interview / offer stage.
About the Requirements
To be considered for this position, candidates need to have worked in a Contracts Management or Senior Project Management position, whilst working for a rival reinforced concrete frame and groundwork subcontractor. This is a must!
About Myself
I have a number of years’ experience recruiting solely within the specialist groundwork and concrete frame sector, it is my specialism. This means I have a strong amount of knowledge regarding how my clients operate and a focused approach on finding construction professionals the right organisation to join in order to enhance their career. These tight-knit bonds with my clients means I know the nuances of each individual business and how they will affect you when discussing the differing benefits to consider in order to draw well-informed comparisons.

Project Manager / Senior Project Manager
New Projects – West London + South East London – both £15m packages
£70,000 - £100,000 + Benefits OR £300 - £450 per day
About the Employer:
This business is one of my top clients. Having worked with them for the past 10+ years I have seen them develop in both size and capability over this time. They now currently turnover above £120 million per annum, building concrete frame and groundwork packages ranging in value up to £30 million each for a variety of residential contractors and developers throughout London and the surrounding Home Counties. They have a very modern edge to the business while maintaining traditional roots and are still privately owned by the original MD (who is a true gent).
On a personal note, I believe this company is one of the best not only for the projects they help complete but also because of the environment they create for the people who work there. They go that extra mile to not only to retain their staff but to truly keep them happy to be with the business. Small things have been added to the office like a gym that people have access to all day with extra half an hour breaks given three times a week for anyone who wants to use it. They have a treatments room where massages and cosmetic treatments are available to everyone on Fridays free of charge, all you have to do is book in. And with plans in place for a roof top garden and BBQ area, I’d want to work here myself if I had the relevant experience in this role! Construction Jobs
W1, Marylebone High Street, Greater London
Small things have been added to the office like a gym that people have access to all day with an extra half an hour breaks given three times a week for anyone who wants to use it. They have a treatments room where massages and cosmetic treatments are available to everyone on Fridays free of charge, all you have to do is book in. And with plans in place for a rooftop garden and BBQ area, I’d want to work here myself if I had the relevant experience in this role! They really are a great company to work for to gain great project experience, to develop capability in modern construction techniques, and to be part of the values they believe in.
About the Opportunity:
We have been asked to find specialist concrete frame and groundwork Project Manager capable of delivering packages ranging in value from £10 million up to £30 million each (anywhere in between). The initial sites are in West London and South East London.
Individuals will need to have a strong understanding of everything from piling, groundworks, basement construction, and concrete frame construction while working on a mixture of residential and mixed-use schemes.
Usual duties will apply from overall management of the site team, technical management of the programme and works, through to management of the client and surrounding aspects (i.e. health & safety, temporary works and client meetings).
About the Requirements:
Suitable construction professionals will ideally be degree qualified in civil engineering or construction management and will be able to show a strong history from a site engineer level through to management over the last 5-10+ years.
It is crucial that applicants can show a strong amount of concrete frame and groundwork construction background having worked for a rival concrete frame and groundwork subcontractors in the UK. Individuals from a main contract or consultancy background cannot be considered.
Regarding software, our client uses the usual Microsoft programmes, standard email functions and Asta Power Project for planning/programming works. Project Managers will be required to use all these tools.
About the Salary / Rewards:
For the right person, our client is looking to offer market-leading packages including a strong salary or rate with added benefits. If PAYE paid you can expect a basic salary ranging from £70,000 to £100,000 depending on your experience, plus a car allowance, full benefits and a targeted project-related bonus. If self-employed, day rates range from £300 to £450 per day and you will be covered for travel costs and you will also be given project-related bonuses.
This company really does pay their people well to make sure they are happy and look to stay long term and in addition to that, clear criteria are provided on how to hit the bonuses so that people are incentivised to perform well and in return receive very good bonuses.
