We are currently working with an AJ100 practice who have a new Assistant Heritage Consultant job. The role will see you supporting the team on a number of interesting historic projects.
Our client was founded in the 1940's and has grown to over 250 people across 11 UK offices. In this time, they have established themselves as an industry leader in planning advice, heritage consultancy, building surveying, conservation, and contemporary architecture.
Working with public bodies, charities, trusts, private companies, contractors, developers, and individuals, this practice has been involved in the care and development of some of the best-loved buildings and places in the UK and abroad. The practice provides sensitive restoration and repair schemes and modern design in historic contexts. Their bold and contemporary designs are spread across a variety of sectors including cultural, master planning, education, ecclesiastical, public, hospitality, residential, and many more.
Due to project levels they now require an Assistant Heritage Consultant to join the team on a full time, permanent basis.
Role & Responsibilities
Undertake desk-based research and actively identify relevant archives (national, regional and local archives) for specific projects in order to carry out thorough archival research
-Carry out on-site, non-intrusive investigations of sites, including building recording and photographic survey of buildings and Conservation Areas
-Prepare histories of buildings and assessments of significance to inform advice relating to heritage assets to our internal architects and to external clients and stakeholders
-Obtaining permissions to use historic images
-Have an understanding of current legislation including the National Planning Policy Framework and current guidance from Historic England
-Help prepare competent, clear and well-written documents, or sections of documents,
-Visiting site as required.
Required Skills & Experience
A degree in heritage, History, Archaeology or building related subject are essential
Experience in carrying out archival and desk-based research is important and previous experience of working as Assistant heritage consultant along with a Master's degree would be
beneficial but not essential.
Ability to prepare well written documents
Working knowledge of GIS would be beneficial
