Construction Assurance Manager, High Speed Rail Our client is recruiting Construction Assurance Managers to work on one of the most ambitious civil engineering programmes in Europe, making sure that complex construction work is being built correctly, safely and in line with what has been engineered and planned. You will be on the ground, reviewing construction activity across earthworks, bridges, structures and ground engineering, checking that what is being delivered matches what was designed, and identifying and resolving issues before they become problems. Your day-to-day purpose is to keep the client's assurance position honest across the contracts you are responsible for. This is a client-side role within an Integrated Project Team. You will work closely with NEC3 Project Managers and Supervisors, supporting them in administering their contracts and discharging their duties under them. Where the construction works need to meet Undertakings and Assurances, Environmental Minimum Requirements or Code of Construction Practice obligations, you will be part of making sure they do. Where interfaces cross contract boundaries, you will help manage them. The scope of work you will be assuring runs to significant contract values, so the ability to prioritise, plan and manage a varied workload across competing demands is essential. What you need to bring Your background is in civil engineering on large-scale projects, and that background should include earthworks, bridges, structures or ground engineering at a scale where programme complexity and competing priorities were part of the daily reality. Experience gained on major roads, major drainage or major earthworks schemes is directly relevant. Candidates from the rail sector are of interest too, including those with a Contractor's Responsible Engineer background, as the programme will move into rail systems delivery in due course. A working knowledge of NEC3 contract principles and Supervisor responsibilities is expected. You will also need a solid grounding in UK construction regulations, including CDM and construction safety management, and an understanding of health, safety and environmental site management processes. The ability to identify and manage risk, to read and follow a construction programme, and to build effective working relationships with contractors and internal colleagues are all important. A degree in civil engineering, construction or building science is expected, though equivalent practical experience will be considered. Useful to have A background that includes an understanding of how to review construction plans, inspect on site and confirm that what is being installed reflects the engineering intent. Experience of HS2 or a comparable high-speed rail programme. Familiarity with Undertakings and Assurances or equivalent environmental and planning obligation frameworks on major infrastructure.
