Job Title: Site Installation Assistant - Balustrade & Staircases
Location: Matlock, Derbyshire
Salary: Up to £15.50/Hr. Dependent on experience
Job Type: Full time, Permanent (Minimum 40 hours per week)
Probationary Period: 3 Months
Holidays: 20 days plus statutory Bank Holidays, increasing over time to a maximum of 25
The role:
The vacancy is for a busy, successful company based on the edge of the Peak District. They specialise in the design, manufacture and installation of contemporary, bespoke, high end architectural metalwork products primarily in mild steel, stainless steel & glass.
The Company is looking to fill this position with a candidate with a degree of flexibility - the workload varies considerably and at times overtime working during the normal working week is inevitable.
From time to time an element of the working week may be spent in the workshop where you will be required to carry out normal simple fabrication workshop duties.
The Candidate:
Supplying regional and national contracts up to £200K to both private clients and their large repeat customer base in the construction sector, they punch above their weight to continue to develop a reputation of delivering cost effective imaginative ideas, with a high standard of workmanship, to tight deadlines, accompanied by great levels of customer service.
Due to an existing vacancy, they are looking to recruit an experienced full time site Installation assistant to join this small team. Specialist training will be provided.
Job Duties:
Generally working as part of a small team under the direction of a site installation supervisor
Have clear knowledge of correct working and safety practices, ensuring that you conform to all the latest health & safety & employment legislation, you will act responsibly and safely at all times to promote a positive safety culture
Read and understand the contents of relevant risk assessments and safe systems of work
Careful and concise work. Taking pride in accuracy and attention to detail
Ensuring all work is completed in line with approved drawings and specifications and meeting or exceeding the customers quality expectations
Problem solving /working using own initiative
To undertake any reasonable tasks requested by your supervisor/company managementKey Requirements:
Knowledge:
A good knowledge of correct working and safety practices on site
A practical aptitude & good experience of hand and power toolsDesirable Experience:
Proven experience of installation work on site covering either, structural steelwork, metal staircases and balustrades, architectural metalwork and glassQualification & Education:

Good general education, with good levels of basic Maths and English
Hold a full driving licence with a maximum of 3 penalty pointsDesirable:

They are engineering designs, manufactures, and assembles European CE Marked structural steelwork for construction industry projects of all sizes. The ideal candidate should have strong math and analytical skills, as well as an eye for detail. Much of the information used in estimating comes from construction drawings, it is critical that an estimator can read and understand Structural Drawings. A fantastic opportunity has arisen for one of my clients who are a leading steel engineering company, supporting successful projects across the Southeast of England from their base in West London. They are engineering designs, manufactures, and assembles European CE Marked structural steelwork for construction industry projects of all sizes. Their strong presence in structural, architectural, and temporary steelwork has been forged through over 30 years of experience. The company’s ability to oversee every aspect of steel manufacture and construction, bringing flexible but disciplined management to each project have consistently proved to be a major advantage to clients and their customers. Due to expansion they are now looking for a structural steel, architectural metalwork Estimator to join the team.
The ideal candidate should have strong math and analytical skills, as well as an eye for detail. Much of the information used in estimating comes from construction drawings, it is critical that an estimator can read and understand Structural Drawings. To help with cost analysis, it is also helpful to have some experience in the industry; and the right candidate will work with the Contracts Managers to oversee the budgeting and financing on a project.
Responsibility & Duties
* Receiving tenders/ pricing enquiries by phone, post and email
* Reading and understanding architects/ consultants’ drawings to understand scope of project
* Determining structural steel and architectural metal work requirements for the project
* Doing full estimates / quotations and responding to tenders with project pricing
* Obtaining quotations for any works that need to be subcontracted
* Responsible for all changes and variations to pricing prior to contract award
* Monitoring of variations to original price with contracts and production managers
* Liaison with clients / directors/ contracts managers/ projects managers in weekly meetings
* Aiding with take offs and quantity surveying duties for awarded projects
* Scheduling and ordering both standard and bespoke work from both the in-house workshop and subcontractors
Experience & Qualification
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills to coordinate effectively with team members Word processing & spreadsheet programs
* Project management and estimating software like Strumis which they use, or other industry equivalents advantageous.
* Excellent time management, multitasking and interpersonal skills.
* Excellent research, proposal writing and oral presentation skills.
* Good working knowledge of industry best practices and standards.
* Excellent IT and numeracy skills.
* Ability to travel and perform client/site visits when required.
