Design Office Manager Location: Derby Salary: Negotiable DOE An excellent opportunity for a Design Manager to join a very large and growing engineering & steelwork group of companies - this position is based at their Derby offices where they are expanding the steelwork fabrication division. This branch of the group, takes on a wide variety of full construction projects (design and build) - steelwork structures of varying size and complexity - such as large Industrial units & Commercial structures. Key responsibilities and duties: Manage all internal Design Engineers including any contract Design offices used. Produce the Design program for all projects in conjunction with Design team. Ensure all RFI's are followed through and work is carried out in line with the project program. Ensure internal drawing office and any contract offices have full design requirements for all steelwork elements and main connections, moment connections etc. where required / requested. Working with the Technical Manager, highlight any issues that may affect the project program and re-program dates and resources accordingly as required. Raise any variations / additions to contract with Estimating department and re-program Design work as required, notifying all affected internal departments. Assist the Estimating office with any design queries for projects under tender / estimate designs etc. Liaise with all internal and external parties as required in association with the Design program, queries, variations etc. Attend internal and external meetings as required, project launches, progress and contract meetings etc. Manage all aspects of the Design office staff, programming of work, reviews, personnel issues and staffing requirements ongoing. Ensure all QA procedures and H&S requirements are maintained and kept up to date within the Design Office. Key Skills, Experience & Attributes: Appropriate and relevant qualifications with regard to Design of Structural Steelwork. Chartered and non-Chartered Engineers - all welcome to apply. Design experience with a minimum of 5 years working within a Steelwork fabrication company or Structural Engineering business, but a sound working knowledge of the structural steelwork industry / design is essential. To work closely with the Design team to manage the program of design work effectively and communicate all expectations and program requirements with staff. Building a solid and creative Design team environment- so excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential. Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, Word, Excel etc. Working experience of industry Design Software packages.
