Job Description
Our highly respected Higher Education client require a Joiner on a temporary basis until September 2022. This role is based in Glasgow city centre and has an hourly pay rate of £14.47 per hour. Working Hours are 8am - 5pm Monday to Thursday and 8am to 4pm on Fridays (35 hours per week).
Role Outline
To carry out repairs to doors, windows, fabric, planned inspections and repairs of fire doors and windows.
Main Activities/Responsibilities:
To carry out maintenance and repair of University property e.g. planned maintenance of fire doors/final exit doors in accordance with legislation, planned maintenance and repairs to windows, all other general repairs to guarantee a safe environment for University staff, students and visitors within established service levels
To utilise all types of wood working machinery and undertake bench work duties to carry out all joinery work such as manufacturing bespoke furniture, preparing and hanging door frames and minor/major/capital works ranging from alterations on office/teaching accommodation to complete refurbishment
To measure and request own material from stores ensuring correct equipment is available to carry out maintenance and repairs. To receive/record delivery of joinery materials from suppliers and complete delivery receipts ensuring all ordered stock is received
To maintain all ironmongery across the University including closers and locks to maintain the security of University property
To prepare University property for contractors for major works and undertake various 1st/2nd fix duties
To operate at all times in line with risk assessments and method statements to maintain health and safety compliance. To operate plant equipment under PUWER regulations and work to Permits to Work and in full compliance with COSHH
To carry an emergency telephone and react immediately to emergencies and complete paperwork such as timesheets, job lines and log sheets in relation to driving University vehicles. To drive these vehicles as required to transport post holder plus required tools and equipment to all tasksExperience Required
Time Served - City & Guilds or equivalent
Knowledge and experience of shop and maintenance work for all aspects of Joinery Services
Experience of bench work
Able to work on own initiative with a minimum of supervision
Experience of working as part of a team
Knowledge of woodworking machinery
Good communication and interpersonal skills
A flexible approach and good general standard of health
Provide cover for on-call rota
Ability to work to risk assessments and method statements
Ability to read and understand construction drawings
Awareness of current Health & Safety legislation
Clean driving licence is desirable
Knowledge and experience of carrying out window repairs
