Deputy Workshop Manager Salary range £30,000 - £35,000 Our client is a busy company supplying furniture and props to the film and television industry. We are looking for a Deputy Workshop Manager to join our team in Southall, Middlesex. Your role would be to assist the Workshop Manager in leading and managing our friendly in-house workshop team, along with maintaining and repairing our vast stock of antique furniture and accessories. Additionally, due to industry demand, we anticipate expanding this department to incorporate model making, along with the Workshop Manager you would play a key role in this expansion. The successful applicant will have at least two years of experience in set and scenic construction or similar industry and have knowledge of a broad range of construction techniques and materials, as well as excellent woodworking skills. You would also need to work in conjunction with the Loss & Damage Coordinator to calculate repair costings which will be passed on to our clients. Key duties & responsibilities • To help manage a team repairing a broad and varied collection of furniture and accessories. Using artistic vision and ability to realize creative ideas. • To assist the Workshop Manager in supervising the work of all workshop staff including casual and service providers to ensure best working practices in terms of safety and quality. • To personally comply and assist the Workshop Manager to ensure all workshop staff and contractors comply with Health & Safety requirements. • Have the ability to work on your own initiative, prioritize and meet deadlines. • Share responsibility for the day-to-day safety and cleanliness of the workshop. • Assist in obtaining costings and quotations for all workshop materials. Including keeping accurate records. Essential Requirements: • At least two years experience in Theatre construction or similar • Experience in managing budgets, purchasing and negotiating with suppliers • Excellent woodworking skills • Strong communication skills • Initiative to work alone with minimum supervision • Positive and flexible approach to problem-solving with attention to detail • Computer literate • Willingness to learn new skills Desirable Requirements: • Knowledge of upholstery • Traditional cabinetry skills • Interest in furniture restoring • French polishing • Diploma in electrical installation • Previous model making experience
