Tennial Personnel are recruiting for a Plant Growing Propagation Supervisor to work in a plant production nursery and arboretum in Campsea Ashe, near Woodbridge.
The company is seeking a skilled and experienced Plant Growing Propagation Supervisor to join their team. They grow one of the largest ranges of hardy nursery stock plants in the country and are the curators of an extensive botanic collection. They also hold the Plant Heritage National Santolina Collection. Being passionate about plants, they cater for the exclusive and discerning customer and extend their sales over the whole of the UK. They are developing an innovative range of associated products and services to support the expanding interest in environmental issues.
They are not wholesale producers, preferring to concentrate on growing small numbers of a large range of rare and unusual plants. The range starts from propagation through to specimen plants in up to 1000 litre containers.
Their commitment to growing genuine English grown and English provenance native trees & hedging is well known.
Hours of work
Monday to Friday 7.30 – 5.00 (earlier finish in winter hours). Weekends on a rota basis during April – October.
The Post
As an experienced and skilled Plant person your responsibilities will include:
Supporting the Nursery Manager and supervise and be responsible for the propagation side of our plant production work.
Managing a small team to collect and store propagation material. Use a variety of methods (seed, graft, cutting etc) to raise the plants to ready for sale size
Ensure the propagation programme is followed and correct records are maintained
Ensure correct aftercare is carried out. This ranges from weeding, irrigation, pest & disease control
Contribute as required to working in other areas of the nursery e.g. onward growing
The role is very hands on and requires you to lead from the front to ensure your team are coached and mentored to produce quality plants.
Skills and Experience
You will need to have an enthusiasm for wide range of plants and possess a comprehensive knowledge of a range of genus. You will also be willing to increase that knowledge, including being comfortable learning plant names.
This is not an entry level post so you will need to be skilled and experienced in plant care, propagation and maintenance tasks.
As this is a supervisory post you will have proven supervisory skills and be able to demonstrate experience in leading a team, have good management and interpersonal skills, be motivated and a motivator, be a good team player, work efficiently and in an organised manner.
You will need to be physically fit.
You must be prepared to work outside in a range of weather conditions
PA1 & PA6 certificates desirable
Horticulture or land-based qualification gained in farming, forestry, agriculture desirable
An understanding of IT systems and the ability to input, analyse and utilise information relating to Nursery plant stock desirable

Tasks will be set and agreed but the company would like a relationship where you can contribute your own ideas and be happy to work on your own initiative
