Job Description

NRL are currently recruiting on behalf of a leading Engineering company for a Senior Construction Manager to be based on the prestigious Hinkley Point C project in Bridgewater, Somerset. For the right candidate this is a rare and exciting opportunity to join a company on a staff basis and be involved in delivering a large project from the onset. Candidates could have strong Mechanical, Electrical and HVAC knowledge. About the role: Acting as a subject matter expert in their area of expertise (civil or MEH), support the contract partners in their delivery of the works packages to enable efficient delivery of their sections of works. • Provide support to the Construction Delivery Manager’s by recommending temporary measures to mitigate against safety and/or quality concerns. Follow up by taking appropriate and proportionate action (e.g. issue communications, call meetings) to avoid the cessation of works. This includes but is not limited to review of documents, assurance audits etc. • Drive works on site and ensure contractor performance is in line with the agreed programme, intervene. Escalate concerns to the Area Construction Lead and provide solutions to recover/mitigate following dialogue with the contractor. • Review the construction daily report to ensure information is reported to the required level of detail up through the organisation to the Area Construction Lead and escalate any issues/concerns via detailed reports. • Proactively communicate/co-ordinate with other site teams (H&S, contract, project controls, logistics) and Senior Construction Delivery Managers to maintain good communication links, and ensure activity is well and timely reported. This will also include regular attendance at pre-start briefings and supporting the delivery of key messages to the contractor’s organisation. • Regular attendance at PLOD/PLOW meetings with the contractor to ensure that short term planning is in line with the overall delivery schedule, ensure outputs are recorded and areas of concern escalated to the Area Construction Lead for further escalation. • Undertake safety and/or assurance inspections that support the project • Ensure clear, two-way communication with the Area Construction Lead and Construction Delivery Managers so that all activity and issues are directed appropriately. • Act as lead reviewer for documents submitted by the contractor that will include but not be limited to risk assessments, method statements, field change requests, non-conformance reports. Collaborate with other members of the review panel to ensure that the review process is completed in a timely manner. • Fulfil line management responsibilities to construction delivery managers which will include but not be limited to setting objectives, monitoring/managing performance, mentoring and developing construction delivery managers. Candidates could have: Qualifications in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or Construction management, or equivalent vocational training. Relevant industry experience, within an MEH (Mechanical, Electrical, HVAC) installation & delivery environment. Experience and knowledge of construction sequencing, recovery plans and resource allocation. Good understanding of the post holder’s obligations under CDM Regulations. working knowledge in the delivery of projects. Ability to write informative, concise and meaningful reports. Motivate and energise contract partners by building a climate of trust and understanding and actively seeking alternative views and opinions. Excellent organisation and communication skills. SMSTS or IOSH qualification holder.
