We are seeking candidates to join our AD HOC Cable Winders (General Labour) available list to be called upon at short notice. Due to the nature of their business, they rely on agency workers to help with the loading and unloading of undersea cable from ships to tanks and tanks to ships when they arrive at Portland Port. By joining, the available list you will be contacted (usually minimum 24 hours’ notice) that a ship is coming in and a shift will be available to work.
Please note we cannot guarantee hours as all shifts vary depending on the timescales set by client.
The role:
In teams of between 8 and 12 people, you will be coiling cables into large tanks.
The cable is fed using pulling machines however; this is a physical, repetitive role.
The cables can vary in size, weight and as you can imagine if been under the seabed, can be dirty.
The tanks are located in a large industrial unit and on occasion, you could be required to work on the actual ship docked.
We advise that if you have a fear of heights this may not be the role for you.
No experience is required, as you will be trained.
We will provide a photo ID card so you will need to come to the branch to sign up.
Candidates must hold:
Passport or Birth Certificate with proof of National Insurance
