Senior Writer - Construction - Hertfordshire
We are looking for a Senior Writer to join our Pre Construction team in Maple Cross (Hertfordshire), working within our Construction (C&R) Business.
The Senior Writer (Preconstruction) will work within the submissions team in one of the UK’s largest construction companies to deliver high-quality, customer-focused prequalification and tender responses.
You will works as an integral part of a bid team (including business development and operational functions), researching, writing and editing, as well as facilitating writing and storyboarding workshops and managing answer planning sessions with contributors. The role also includes management of a team of writers and junior/trainee writers, together with a number of experienced freelance writers.
You'll
* Enables bid teams to deliver high-quality draft responses through professional support, with identification of win themes, storyboarding, answer plans, writing workshops, etc.
* Works closely with subject matter experts to refine drafts into highly-polished, customer-focussed responses that are clear, well-structured and focus on client benefits
* Conducts research, interviews contributors and gathers information from a wide range of sources, writing from scratch or editing material as appropriate
* Manages all writers within the same operating unit, providing support, coaching and advice. Responsible for driving writing excellence across the team of direct reports, and contributes at a senior level to developing and sharing best practice across the wider business
We're looking for
* Minimum GCSE English Language Grade B or equivalent
* A relevant degree in English, Journalism, Creative Writing, Engineering, etc. is an advantage
* Prior experience from a bidding environment, preferably 5-10 years, including construction and/or rail sectors
* An editorial approach to writing, with proven abilities in a professional writing capacity
* Excellent written English, with meticulous attention to detail (e.g. spelling, grammar and punctuation)
* Excellent analytical skills, able to formulate effective bid strategies and identify win themes
* Software skills: Excellent Microsoft Office proficiency (Adobe InDesign skills an advantage)
* Ability to deliver high-quality documents to tight deadlines
