About the Role We are seeking a skilled and motivated Estimator to join a growing commercial team within the civil engineering and infrastructure sector. As an Estimator, you will play a key role in the tendering process, working closely with engineering, commercial, and operational teams to develop robust cost estimates for a variety of civil engineering and infrastructure projects. You will analyse project documentation, assess risks, liaise with suppliers and subcontractors, and contribute to securing new business opportunities that align with organisational objectives. Key Responsibilities Tendering & Cost Estimation Prepare detailed cost estimates for civil engineering and infrastructure projects, including materials, labour, plant, and associated resources. Analyse drawings, specifications, and contract documentation to determine project scope and requirements. Develop accurate quantity take-offs, rates, and pricing structures. Produce detailed cost reports and support budgeting processes throughout the tender stage. Identify project risks, opportunities, and value engineering solutions to enhance project viability. Assist in the preparation and submission of competitive tenders and proposals. Collaboration & Communication Work closely with project managers, engineers, planners, and commercial teams to gather technical and operational input. Review and analyse tender documents, contracts, drawings, and specifications. Liaise with suppliers, subcontractors, and stakeholders to obtain competitive quotations and technical information. Participate in tender review meetings and provide clear justification for pricing assumptions and recommendations. Build and maintain effective working relationships across project teams and external partners. Commercial & Technical Responsibilities Maintain up-to-date knowledge of market trends, material prices, labour costs, and industry developments. Ensure compliance with company procedures, industry standards, and relevant legislation. Support the development of tender submissions, including methodologies, programmes, and pricing breakdowns. Maintain accurate records of estimates, quotations, tender documents, and project information. Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the estimating function. Skills & Experience Essential Proven experience as an Estimator within the civil engineering, construction, utilities, infrastructure, or related sectors. Degree, HNC/HND, or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related discipline. Strong understanding of civil engineering and infrastructure project components, including earthworks, drainage, concrete works, utilities, and structural elements. Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and contract documentation. Excellent numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Proficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Excel. Strong communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management abilities. Ability to manage multiple tenders and work effectively under deadlines. Desirable Experience working on large-scale infrastructure or construction projects. Knowledge of NEC-3 or NEC-4 and other standard forms of contract. Understanding of value engineering and risk management principles. Benefits Competitive salary dependent on experience. We are supporting a leading infrastructure contractor in the appointment of an experienced Quantity Surveyor for a flagship multi-year high value project. This offers the chance to make a genuine impact on a high-profile scheme from delivery through to completion. The role Mostly client-side Based onsite 5 days per week Part of a programme valued at around 70 million, running until 2029 Contract terms 12-month rolling contract Outside IR35 Competitive rate which includes travel and hotel What we are looking for Strong NEC contract administration experience, including compensation events, early warnings, change control and payment applications Experience managing project costs, budgets, forecasting and financial reporting across the project lifecycle Strong IT skills Comfortable working onsite and embedded with the client team Interested, or know someone who might be?
