Senior Estimator Water Industry Location: Derbyshire Salary: £75,000 - £85,000 Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week About the company My client is a leading infrastructure company, and their Northern Water Business Unit is looking for a Senior Estimator to join their team. The Role of the Senior Estimator As a Senior Estimator , you ll play a critical role in preparing and submitting tenders, ensuring competitive bids, and driving future business growth. Working closely with the bid team, you ll use your construction knowledge and commercial insight to secure profitable projects. Your responsibilities will include risk and value management, budget preparation, cost planning, and collaboration with design and project teams. Key Responsibilities of the Senior Estimator Review and assess tender documents. Prepare material and subcontractor inquiries, selecting prospective partners. Attend strategy meetings and site visits to identify risks. Contribute to design development and attend design meetings as needed. Develop tender bills of quantities and analytical cost estimates. Compare and adjudicate subcontractor quotations. Manage risk throughout the tender period, preparing a comprehensive tender risk register. Lead value engineering processes during design phases. Present tenders to senior management, highlighting any significant risks. Ensure a seamless handover to the operational team. What We're Looking For Degree in Construction or related field (essential). Minimum of 10 years' experience in a similar role. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Extensive experience with analytical estimating, including projects up to £25m. Familiarity with various contract types (design & build, traditional, partnering, frameworks). Experience using estimating software. Strong technical construction knowledge and industry standards. Skilled in cost planning and risk management. Ability to lead, manage, and develop teams. Strong communication, presentation, and problem-solving skills. Responsibilities of Site Agent Resource allocation and management of Site staff. Reporting to the senior Manager on Department budget control procedures for contracts and progress against programme. Management of projects/contracts. Communication at all levels regarding progress of projects. Line management/supervision for Sub Agents & General Foreman. Indirectly supervise Site Engineer, Foreman and Gangers. Criteria to be considered Essential: Civil Engineering/Construction management degree Desirable: Chartered status or approaching. This is a fantastic opportunity for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join a successful team, ensuring the financial delivery of critical water infrastructure projects, and contributing to AMP7 and beyond. The Opportunity of the Senior Quantity Surveyor As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will oversee the commercial management of large-scale projects or multiple smaller projects, ensuring financial success while mitigating risks and adhering to business procedures. This role involves working closely with the Regional Director, Commercial Manager, and Project Managers to safeguard the company's financial interests. Main Duties of the Senior Quantity Surveyor: Coordinate with the Regional Director and Commercial Manager to implement commercial strategies. Ensure timely submission of all relevant data for monthly and quarterly performance analysis. Liaise with Project Managers for commercial administration, ensuring successful financial outcomes. Prepare and approve draft sub-contracts within the Region s Commercial Team. Manage contract notices and submissions to protect contractual positions. Oversee main contract payment applications, ensuring all additional cost claims are submitted. Assist Project Managers with sub-contractor performance management to ensure timely completion. Regularly submit main contract payment applications and ensure timely cash collection. Participate in dispute avoidance/resolution processes and manage meetings. What You'll Need to Succeed: Comprehensive understanding of the construction industry and key players. Strong knowledge of measurement, valuation, and standard forms of contract. Negotiation skills with clients and sub-contractors. Experience in preparing accurate financial forecasts and monthly cost/value reports. Familiarity with the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS). Experience with risk assessment and value engineering. Expertise in live projects and final account completions. Desirable: Professional membership (RICS) and experience with CEMAR & COINS systems. Highly desirable: Previous experience in the Water industry.
