Yard Operative We are looking for a proactive and reliable Yard Operative to join a dedicated team in this West Hampstead branch. This hands-on role is perfect for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced, physically active environment and takes pride in delivering excellent customer service. You'll support both yard and store operations, ensuring stock is well managed and customers receive the best experience possible. A forklift licence is essential for this role as 25% of your time will be spent driving the counterbalance forklift truck. A team player who can also take initiative and work independently Comfortable in a dynamic, fast-paced, and physically demanding environment Excellent communication and customer service skills A good understanding of health and safety regulations Previous experience in builders merchant is preferred

Location: West Hampstead, NW6 Salary: £34,000 - £37,000 Hours: Monday to Friday: 6:30am - 4:30pm, Alternate Saturdays: 7:00am - 1:00pm Purpose of the Role: As Transport Officer, you'll help play a key role overseeing the daily transport operation, supporting drivers and yard colleagues while ensuring vehicles, routes, and deliveries are managed efficiently and in full compliance with legal and company standards. Benefits: Perkbox - 24/7 discounts, wellbeing support, online GP access & more Company Pension Scheme Group Life Assurance - up to 3x Salary (subject to length of service) Staff Discount Free Breakfast every morning Cycle to Work Scheme Employee Assistance Programme Long Service Awards 23 Days Annual Leave Plus Bank Holidays Birthday Day Off Key Responsibilities: Assist in overseeing daily transport operations to ensure deliveries are completed safely, on time, and efficiently Support drivers and yard team members to maintain compliant, effective operations Plan routes and schedule deliveries to maximise fleet efficiency, including vehicle loading and day-to-day fleet monitoring Liaise with customers and colleagues to resolve delivery queries and provide clear updates Ensure vehicles and drivers meet all legal, safety, and company standards, carrying out and recording regular checks Promote a positive team culture with strong communication and high customer service standards Carry out various administrative duties to support the transport function, including maintaining accurate records and documentation Utilise IT systems effectively for scheduling, reporting, and communication Requirements: Previous experience with planning routes Proven experience in transport, logistics, or fleet management within builders' merchants or construction materials Strong working knowledge of vehicle maintenance, transport legislation, and driver compliance Good IT skills with experience using transport or logistics systems Excellent organisational, problem-solving, and time management skills Confident communicator with a positive, collaborative, solutions-focused approach Calm under pressure, adaptable in a fast-paced environment, and committed to health & safety
