They are looking for an experienced Electrician within the expanding Historic Ships Conservation team based in Portsmouth. The successful candidate will be part of a friendly, multidisciplinary team of diverse trades, museum professionals, conservators and maritime industry specialists committed to the provision of high-quality professional work maintaining and conserving historic ships and museum galleries/buildings. Key Opportunities. The majority of your time will be based across their sites in Gosport and in Portsmouth in the renowned Historic Dockyard. You will be working in their historically important buildings and aboard some of the world’s most famous ships, which include – HMS Victory, HMS Warrior, HMS Alliance and HMS M.33. There is also the opportunity to travel when required to other Museum locations in the UK, including Yeovilton, Hartlepool and Belfast. This is to be stressed that this is occasional though and you will not be expected to travel to these sites too frequently. Overseen by the Electrical Supervisor, your work will ensure that the museum’s Historic Ships and buildings are able to operate effectively and safely. Using and updating the Facilities Management system (CAFM) to track and schedule routine maintenance tasks and emergency works from a PC or tablet. Their historic vessels are a public attraction and draw crowds from around the globe, you will be expected to engage with visitors about the important conservation work being undertaken. This role provides an excellent opportunity for those with an interest in the challenging heritage work within the Historic Ships Team. Knowledge/Experience. Fully qualified and experienced Electrician with the ability to present documentary evidence of qualifications. You will be required to have previous proven experience in electrical maintenance, emergency lighting, Risk Assessments and Health & Safety. A Marine Electrical background would be advantageous but other electrical backgrounds will be considered for the right candidate. The role does require the applicant to be qualified to City & Guilds level 3 Certificate in Electronic/Electrical Engineering (2322). Applicants with equivalent Qualification’s or Experience are also welcomed. Qualified to Inspection and testing certificate (2394/2395) is desirable but equivalent qualification will be considered. Also desirable is the experience working on alarm systems, fire detection and audio systems. The applicant will possess working knowledge of IEE regulations and BS7671. This post requires a standard DBS check as a requirement of working on the naval base, this can be obtained once in post. The successful candidate will be responsible for the provision of a safe, efficient and cost-effective service stream on all areas of service delivery, ensuring the highest quality of work is provided in the timescales. The role will focus on managing the repair and refurbishment of the site, together with construction of new buildings.
