Pre-Construction (Planning) Develop a detailed tender programme based upon and incorporating:- * Work loaded quantities for major elements * Input form key supply chain partners * Recognition and validation of resource availability (labour, plant, materials and manufactured items) * Recognition of procurement lead times * Integration of design programme including approval process * Recognition of statutory approvals and discharge of Planning Conditions * Provide planning operational and build methodology input to bid submission. * Attend interviews and presentations as part of the work winning process, ensuring that customer/project stakeholder needs are understood and input is customer focused. * Participate in the formulation of contractors’ proposals. * Develop construction sequence layouts and logistics diagrams to support the programme and build methodology. * Assist in the analysis of subcontract returns in respect of anticipated programme, lead in times and preliminary allowances. * Consider, in liaison with the Project Manager, the extent of the temporary works required to suit the chosen construction methodology and undertake the following:- * Include in the “Prelim” packages, eg craneage, hoisting, access platforms, scaffold, temporary propping etc the extent of the temporary works which we expect the subcontractors to be responsible for * Ensure that the following planning “tools” are in place:- * Fully integrated design and build programme * Design programme (developed by Design Manager – integrated by Planner) * Procurement schedule * Programme of preliminary allocations for staff, labour and plant Project Delivery (Planning) : Support project teams in the development of strategic stage programmes required throughout the course of the project. Support project teams in the development of countdown to completion programmes and schedules. Assist in the process of progress monitoring and record keeping in respect of programme performance. Support in developing stage and short term programmes. Support weekly planning reviews as required by the particular project demands. Undertake independent analysis of site progress to verify project team reports. Collate accurate progress outputs to enable future benchmarking. Key Responsibilities: * Ensure areas of responsibility on the project are delivered on programme to the agreed quality. * Run the build aspect of the project and ensure Company Management System controls are in place and being followed. * Ensure risks are identified and mitigation measures are put in place. * Ensure the construction budget and costs are managed effectively for all building elements. * Ensure construction programmes are in place and achieved. * Regularly check progress of the building works and meet with sub-contractors to agree action to ensure achievement of the Programme. Prepare and monitor short term programmes. * Through daily, weekly and four weekly look aheads, co-ordinate and manage the interface of all sub-contractors. * Manage cost and budget for on site build activities. * Ensure all sub-contractors have a Quality Plan and are implementing it. * Agree and set standards required and monitor the quality of workmanship. Inspect the works to ensure they conform to plans, specifications and drawings. * Conduct regular reviews of drawings/document control on site, ensuring only construction issue drawings are in use in the field. * Ensure all site diaries/records of the build activities are completed. * Take full responsibility for all plant and materials hired by Torsion Group. * Manage and ensure compliance to all Torsion Group Safety, Health and Environment Systems, including documentation. * Provide customer-focused aftercare support to minimize defects and realise prompt release of retention and the opportunity for repeat business. * Promptly recommend any intervention required to address any project concerns or issues

Our client a well-known civil engineering main contractor based in southern Yorkshire is seeking a permanent Managing Quantity Surveyor to join their well established team. The company operates in a number of civil engineering markets however we are in need of either a SQS that is looking for the next step up in their career or an MQS seeking a new challenge. The successful applicant would be managing 1 x SQS, 1 x QS and 1 x Assistant QS. The projects are all NEC contracts and ranged from £100K to around £1million in value and in any given week they have around 20-30 live sites. We are seeking an applicant that has good NEC knowledge and CVR reports both producing their own and compiling the teams reports into one overall division CVR then reporting this to the end client. Applicants that are used to selecting and setting up subbies on NEC contracts is also required. As this is a long-term civils framework whilst being contractual is important maintaining and building upon client relationships is important. The ideal candidate would have main contractor experience can do the above but also has managed other surveyors previously. The role offers a very competitive salary and benefits package, the opportunity to work only 3 days in the office and a 39 hour week with many other benefits also offered.
