A Tyne & Wear based local authority are looking for a suitably qualified Civil Quantity Surveyor / QS to work within their Civil/Highways department initially for a circa 12 month contract. You will be required to work on the local authorities varied civil projects including bridges, roads & highway structures etc and associated works. This is a key post within the Civil Surveying/Commercial Service division which is responsible for delivery of the civil structural schemes within the county, including new and revision projects. You will be responsible for carrying out the QS duties on a wide range of civil & structural projects and associated works. The successful applicant must have previous civil/structural QS experience and ideally a public sector background or previous experience. The role will be paid on an hourly rate basis circa £23 to £27 hr negotiable and paid via Umbrella. Business mileage will be paid where applicable. Ideally candidates should be educated to degree level or hold an equivalent professional qualification and have extensive experience of delivering major refurbishment schemes and new build developments within a project management capacity. Candidates are expected to have operational management experience and the ability to take a project from inception and design, to on-site delivery, managing resources and contractors to ensure successful service delivery and customer satisfaction. Ideally have a working knowledge of asset database management Experience of Symology asset management systems. Role: Site Supervisor/Asset Inspector- Highways (Full-time, potential out of hours and overtime working) Duties and key result areas: *  Act as Supervisor to workforce and contractors during routine and planned works on the A69 Trunk Road *  Inspect and record asset features/condition for inclusion into A69 management system *  Take responsibility for day to day workload and staffing issues *  Co-ordinate and make best use of available resources to ensure the economic and timely delivery of routine and planned works *  Deliver inductions and training to workforce in the form of ‘tool box talks’ *  Ensure compliance with health and safety and employment legislation, including CDM regulations, through procedures and safe methods of working *  Monitor relevant financial budgets and delivery of programmes *  Ensure that prevailing legislation and best professional practice are reflected in the standards and values of activities undertaken *  Represent North Pennine Link Group at a range of meetings related to the contract *  Any other duties of a similar nature and level may be required from time to time.
