The UK’s largest infrastructure project undoubtedly throws up some major ecological challenges which must be mitigated to ensure the successful delivery of HS2. This can range from river restorations, river re-alignments, floodplain reconnections, habitat creation and fish passes.
My client is a rapidly expanding environmental construction company with a vast amount of experience in all aspects of environmental consulting and management works. This client has a large amount of work with numerous contractors on HS2 to help them successfully manage the environmental impact of the project.
The Role – Quantity Surveyor
As Quantity Surveyor you will be joining an overall site team of 30 and will be working across a portfolio of environmental mitigation projects. The Quantity Surveyor will be a motivated self-starter with considerable construction industry experience to help develop and co-ordinate the commercial team and support and advise on effective contract management across a growing package of projects.
The ideal Quantity Surveyor will come from a civil engineering background with extensive infrastructure experience.
Requirements
* Manage entries onto client Cemar system, ensuring all actions are closed
* Manage and close actions on the change log
* Manage and produce Early Warning Notices and Compensation Events
* Manage the AfP process, liaising with commercial assistants, and the wider project team for information
* Provide commercial management of sub-contractors and suppliers
* Liaise directly with client commercial team on day to day tasks, and flag the extraordinary to senior management
* Dealing with quotations and monthly payments
* Prepare, agree and provide on-going cost analysis
* Monthly cost valuation reports
* Analyse sub-contractor’s variation accounts
* Agree of interim valuations and final accounts
* Prepare and issue certification for contract payments to sub-contractors
* Prepare forecasts
* Ensure contract security or alert issues promptly and advise as to solutions
* Ensure financial success of projects especially by improving forecasting systems and ensuring opportunity for disallowed costs is shut down promptly.
About you
* Knowledge of NEC3 suite of contracts
* Have an ability in negotiating across the various levels of the construction environment
* Possess excellent numeracy and IT skills
* Be able to advise on potential risks and evaluate options for control
* Experience in the environmental and ground engineering sector preferred
* Maintain a positive relationship with the client
* Degree in Quantity Surveying or Civil Engineering or NVQ Level 6 in Construction or equivalent
* Experience with NEC3 form of contract
* Minimum of 5 years’ experience postgraduate
* Confident with clients, meetings, and contractual duties.

The right candidate could see themselves on site for up to 12 months if they are able to assist with site management duties alongside the engineering.
In order to be successful for this role, you will need to have a track record in delivering similar projects, ideally large-scale student accommodation project.
Duties include accountability for the following:
* Good understanding and interpolation of engineer and architects’ drawings
* Able to transfer from drawings to setting out in the field accurately and clearly

The Role – COVID Marshall Site Administrator
As Site Administrator you will be joining a large project team and will be offering admin support across the team covering a variety of different duties. Based out of the Site offices near Leamington Spa you will be responsible for general administrations, management of cost allocation sheets and keeping the skills matrix updated regularly. You will also be responsible for greeting visitors to site, carrying out a simple visitors induction giving a safety brief, and also completing the necessary documentation for individuals coming onto site, issuing a visitors pass and ensuring that the visitor is introduced to their host on site.
This role would suit an experienced office or site administrator who has experience working in the construction industry and has a strong attention to detail. The ideal candidate would have construction site administration experience; however, this is not essential.
In addition to the above this site administrator will be instrumental in helping manage the risk of COVID-19 on the project. The first part of the day will be manning the Temperature Scanner and accurately recording the data. You will also be required to approach people who may not be adhering to COVID procedures to remind them politely but firmly of the requirements. This site administrator must therefore be confident enough to do this.
As temperature checks are performed daily on the project this role will require an early start and the successful individual will be required on site from 06:30am, this might change during the winter months when it is darker and site hours might be reduced due to this.
Initially the role will be for 8 hours per day, however, workload on this contractor is set to increase and as such the hours might increase to 9.5 hours per day.

The ideal candidate will come from a civil engineering background with extensive infrastructure experience. Having experience from an environmental project will be a distinct advantage, however, my client is keen to see applications from candidates that have worked within the water sector or on flood alleviation projects. The Role
This impressive client has a requirement for TP137 Site Manager to oversee the dismantling of a super transformer, packing the components and then removal of the TX by heavy lift transport. The successful Site Manager will oversee a team of four transformer specialists and all subcontractors for the project, including scaffold, oil processing and heavy lift transport.
The Site Manager also will act as Temporary Works Supervisor for certain elements of the work so the ideal candidate will hold TWS tickets.
The position is due to start on Monday 20th July and will run until 21st July 2020. This client is extremely busy at the moment and feels confident that a further contract could be offered to the right candidate on one of their other projects after the completion of this one.

Our client needs to expand its Field Service Division to support customer demand in this area.
The Role – Mechanical Engineer
Over the coming months our client will need to recruit and train three teams of Mechanical Engineers to support their customers. Reporting into the Sales Manager and Technical Manager each Mechanical Engineer will work in a two-person team on customer sites across the UK and Ireland to provide SF6 leak remediation repair works. The leak repair works take approximately two days each, with an average of three leak repairs required per site; you can expect to be spending one week in each location before moving on to a new site the following week.
As this role is customer facing the successful Mechanical Engineers will have to have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate and present to all relevant levels within a customer’s organisation.
The ideal candidate will hold an appropriate technical qualification (ONC/HNC in Electronic/Mechanical Engineering), have previous site experience and previous exposure to National Grid/DNO’s. Our client is keen to see applications from anyone with a mechanically biased background who has worked in a Field Service Engineer role previously or has been site based.
You will be fully trained on the patented product which will include a trip to Monaco to spend time at test sites with the manufacturer and distributor of the product. Further training can be provided on all required National Grid / DNO authorisations that need to be renewed along with working at height, manual handling and first aid. The Cabinet Office has confirmed that construction in England can continue as long as it can be done safely and in accordance with the Public Health England guidance. In order to ensure the Health & Safety of all personnel on site, my client needs to recruit five COVID-19 Wardens. As COVID-19 Warden you will be responsible for ensuring adherence to the increased measures that have been implemented.
Working under the advice and guidance of the Health & Safety Manager and the Assistant Health & Safety Manager you will be fully briefed on the methods that have been implemented and you will be out on site ensuring that all colleagues are working to this. You must not be afraid to give direction and stop work if required. You will then need to report on daily activities from your designated work area.
This role would be ideal for anyone that has worked as a Lookout, Site Warden or COSS in a rail environment as the skills will be very transferable to this role. Even if your tickets have expired but you have experience in this area please get in touch as you will only need a valid CSCS card and relevant experience for this role.
