Multi Skilled Operative Defence FM Contract Salary: 32,000 - 35,000 per annum Location: RAF Fairford & RAF Welford Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm On Call: 1 in 11 rota, including overnight and weekend cover About the Role Mainstay Recruitment are currently supporting a leading Defence Facilities Management provider in their search for a skilled and versatile Multi Skilled Operative to join their maintenance team supporting the Defence estate across RAF Fairford and RAF Welford. This is an excellent opportunity for a practical, hands-on maintenance professional looking for a varied role where you will play a key part in maintaining safe, reliable and operational facilities across a unique environment. You will be responsible for delivering maintenance, repairs, compliance works and minor refurbishment activities across a mixture of domestic and commercial buildings, ensuring facilities remain safe, functional and well maintained. The role is predominantly based at RAF Fairford, with travel required to RAF Welford when necessary. A company van and fuel card will be provided to support travel between sites. The Role As a Multi-Skilled Operative, you will be responsible for carrying out a variety of maintenance tasks across the Defence estate. Completing reactive maintenance repairs, planned works, compliance activities and minor refurbishments across domestic and commercial buildings Carrying out multi-skilled maintenance activities including plumbing, electrical repairs, plastering, mechanical maintenance and general building repairs Supporting the delivery of safe, compliant and high-quality maintenance services across the estate Diagnosing issues and completing repairs efficiently to minimise disruption Travelling between RAF Fairford and RAF Welford as required, using a company van and fuel card Managing allocated jobs digitally through a tablet/mobile device, ensuring accurate updates and completion records are maintained Supporting occasional storekeeping and yard duties when required Working independently to complete allocated tasks while also supporting the wider maintenance team Participating in an on-call rota, approximately 1 week in 11, including overnight and weekend cover This role requires someone who is adaptable, reliable and comfortable working across a broad range of maintenance activities within a fast-paced operational environment. You will have: Previous experience working within maintenance, facilities, construction or housing environments Practical experience completing repairs, maintenance and minor works across buildings Knowledge of general building services including plumbing, electrical repairs, mechanical maintenance and associated works An understanding of Health & Safety requirements, including COSHH and RIDDOR The ability to work independently, manage your own workload and prioritise tasks effectively Strong attention to detail with a commitment to delivering quality workmanship Good communication skills with the ability to work professionally with colleagues, customers and contractors Trade qualifications are desirable but not essential. Candidates with strong practical experience and a proven track record of delivering maintenance works are encouraged to apply. Our client provides facilities management and infrastructure services across the UK Defence estate, supporting the Ministry of Defence with a wide range of planned works, maintenance and infrastructure projects. This is an excellent opportunity for a Project Manager with experience across Facilities Management, Construction, Engineering or Infrastructure to take ownership of a varied portfolio of Billable Works projects within a high-profile Defence environment. The Role As Project Manager, you will take responsibility for the successful delivery of projects from initial planning through to completion, ensuring works are delivered safely, on time, within budget and to the required quality standards. You'll work closely with key stakeholders, site teams and supply chain partners to agree project scope, priorities and delivery programmes, while maintaining strong control of project risks, costs and performance. The role combines project management, stakeholder engagement, commercial awareness and operational delivery, making it well suited to someone who enjoys being involved in the detail while maintaining oversight of the wider project. Key Responsibilities Manage Billable Works projects from initiation through to completion. Develop and manage project plans, programmes, budgets and delivery milestones. Coordinate internal teams and supply chain partners to ensure projects are appropriately resourced. Monitor project performance against agreed KPIs, cost, time, quality and safety requirements. Review risk assessments and method statements, ensuring appropriate safe systems of work are implemented. Identify, assess and manage project and contractual risks throughout the project lifecycle. Ensure projects comply with relevant statutory, regulatory, health and safety and environmental requirements. Work closely with stakeholders to agree project scope, priorities and delivery timescales. Maintain accurate project records and ensure relevant documentation is completed and uploaded to systems including SharePoint and CAFM platforms. Monitor supply chain performance and ensure suitably qualified and experienced personnel are deployed. Support effective financial and commercial management, ensuring value for money across project delivery. Act as a key point of contact for customers and end users, resolving issues and complaints effectively. Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and share best practice across the contract. Support wider sustainability objectives, including initiatives aimed at reducing carbon emissions across the Defence estate. About You You'll have proven experience managing or supervising teams within a project delivery environment, ideally gained within Facilities Management, Construction, Engineering, Infrastructure or a similar operational setting. You'll be comfortable managing multiple priorities, coordinating operational teams and supply chain partners, and making practical decisions to keep projects moving. We're particularly interested in candidates with experience in: Project management and delivery within a complex operational environment. Managing project costs, budgets and commercial considerations. Resource planning and coordinating operational teams. Stakeholder management and customer engagement. Health, safety and environmental compliance. Risk management and safe systems of work. Monitoring performance against KPIs and agreed project outcomes.
