Commercial Manager - Transmission & Renewables Location: South Wales/ South West England. Permanent/ Hybrid role, 3 days in the office, with occasional travel required. Turner Lovell is recruiting an experienced Contract Commercial Manager to join a leading EPC Contractor with a turnover exceeding 1 billion in the electricity and renewable energy sector. Following the award of multi-year framework agreements, the company is expanding its team to deliver turnkey HV substation projects across the UK, ranging from 20 million to 150 million. Role Summary You'll take a key commercial leadership role across a portfolio of high-voltage and energy infrastructure projects. This includes overseeing commercial planning, managing risk, strengthening financial performance, and supporting the successful delivery of substation and transmission works. Main Responsibilities Set the commercial approach for regional projects and tenders, ensuring consistency, control, and strong financial outcomes. Guide and develop the commercial team, helping them grow their technical and commercial capability. Work closely with Project and Finance teams to produce accurate forecasts, monitor cashflow, and report performance. Review tender documents, highlight risks and opportunities, and present clear commercial recommendations. Manage procurement activities and ensure all contracts meet required standards and governance. Build effective relationships with clients and suppliers, helping resolve issues and supporting future work opportunities. Promote high standards of safety, quality, and performance across all commercial activity. Requirements Experienced commercial professional with a background in infrastructure, utilities, or energy projects. Confident working with major contract forms such as NEC3/4, JCT, and FIDIC. Degree-qualified, with strong negotiation and communication skills. Skilled in contract review, commercial reporting, and project control processes. Proven ability to lead, support and develop a commercial team. Hold a UK driving licence and be comfortable travelling to sites within the region. We're looking for a Pre-Contract Technical Lead to join a dynamic team driving major electrical connection projects (33kV to 400kV) for renewable energy developments. This role focuses on the pre-contract stage - ensuring technical compliance, delivering innovative solutions, and supporting winning bids in a rapidly growing sector that's central to the UK's Net Zero future. What You'll Do Act as the technical expert during tender preparation, ensuring compliance and proposing cost-effective, innovative solutions. Support estimating teams with technical scope, pricing options, and reviewing tender documents. Engage confidently with clients during presentations and respond to complex technical queries. Collaborate with procurement and subcontractors to secure competitive quotations. Provide technical handovers for successful bids and support project teams during delivery. Prepare and review technical reports and documentation for governance and internal approvals. What You'll Bring Degree/HNC in Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualification. Membership of IET (MIET) preferred. Strong experience in renewable energy and high-voltage electrical systems (33kV-400kV). Knowledge of solar PV, battery storage, balance of plant, and grid connections. Familiarity with National Grid and DNO standards. Excellent communication skills and ability to manage multiple priorities. IT proficiency (MS Office) and understanding of construction sequencing and safety standards. Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel.
