Key Responsibilities Opening and locking up the school premises Carrying out security and site checks Supporting with general maintenance and minor repairs Completing basic DIY and maintenance tasks Moving furniture and assisting with event and classroom set-ups Receiving and handling deliveries Ensuring the school grounds and buildings are clean, safe and well maintained Supporting health and safety checks and procedures Reporting any maintenance, security or health and safety issues Assisting the wider site team with general facilities duties About You We are looking for someone who is: Experienced as a Caretaker, Facilities Assistant, Site Assistant, Maintenance Operative, Handyperson or similar Practical, hands-on and confident carrying out basic maintenance and DIY Reliable, organised and able to work independently Flexible with early starts and occasional late finishes Able to work well around children and within a school environment Ideally experienced within a school or educational setting Able to start immediately DBS Requirement An Enhanced DBS is required for this role. Quantity Surveyor Location: Durham or Bernicia HQ, Ashington, with travel to project sites Salary: 52,621 per annum Contract: Permanent Client: Bernicia Group Bernicia Group is seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join its Asset and Property team. You will support the commercial management of planned investment and construction projects across its housing portfolio, helping to maintain financial control, administer contracts and deliver value for money. This opportunity may suit a Quantity Surveyor working for a housing provider, construction contractor or consultancy. Direct social housing experience is desirable, but candidates with relevant construction and planned works experience are encouraged to apply. Key responsibilities Administer contracts, including applications for payment, valuations, variations, certification and final accounts. Support procurement and tendering through the preparation and review of work scopes, tender documents and pricing schedules. Monitor project budgets, cashflow, completions, contractor performance and commercial outcomes. Visit sites regularly to assess work in progress and its commercial impact. Identify commercial and operational risks, report concerns and help develop practical solutions. Attend pre-start, progress, partnership and commercial meetings with contractors and internal stakeholders. Maintain accurate commercial records and support improvements to asset and contract management processes. Consider value for money and social value when assessing project delivery. Essential requirements Proven Quantity Surveying experience within the construction sector. Experience of procurement, project management, contract administration and managing substantial budgets. Ability to interpret financial and project information and make clear recommendations. Strong communication skills and experience working with construction professionals and other stakeholders. Chartered status, a relevant degree or demonstrable relevant experience at a comparable level. A full clean driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes, including site visits. Desirable experience Working as a client-side Quantity Surveyor. Housing, planned maintenance or planned investment programmes. Knowledge of housing and construction regulation, including the Construction Act.
