Mechanical Estimator Building Services Location: Watford (Hybrid Working) Salary: £65,000 £75,000 per annum (DOE) Type: Full-time, Permanent Overview An established and growing Building Services contractor is seeking an experienced Mechanical Estimator to join its commercial team based in Watford. Key Responsibilities Produce accurate and competitive mechanical cost estimates for building services projects Prepare detailed tenders covering HVAC, plumbing, pipework, and associated mechanical systems Review and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and tender documentation Source, evaluate, and negotiate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors Liaise closely with project managers, engineers, and commercial teams Identify risk, cost-saving opportunities, and value engineering options Ensure tenders are submitted accurately and within required deadlines Monitor market trends, labour rates, and material costs Maintain organised and auditable estimating records Candidate Requirements Minimum 3 years experience as a Mechanical Estimator within building services or construction Strong understanding of mechanical building services systems Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and specifications Proficient in estimating software and Microsoft Office Excellent numerical, analytical, and commercial awareness Strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to work independently and collaboratively Degree or qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services, or Construction Management (desirable but not essential) What s on Offer Competitive salary of £65,000 £75,000 (negotiable depending on experience) Performance-related bonus scheme Private healthcare and pension contribution Hybrid working arrangement Clear career progression and professional development support Friendly, professional, and supportive working environment Apply Now If you re an experienced Mechanical Estimator looking to progress your career with a reputable building services contractor, we d love to hear from you. With a strong pipeline of secured work and long-term frameworks in place, they are now looking to appoint a Pre-Construction Director to lead and develop their pre-construction function. This business delivers a full lifecycle service, covering consultancy, design, installation, and maintenance of fire safety systems including fire doors, fire stopping, detection & alarms, and sprinkler systems. The Role As Pre-Construction Director, you will take full ownership of all pre-construction activities, playing a key strategic role in shaping project delivery before it reaches site. You will be responsible for: Leading estimating, cost planning, and bid management across multiple projects Developing and implementing tender and bid strategies to improve win rates Managing and growing a high-performing pre-construction team Working closely with clients to ensure commercial viability and compliance from the outset Driving value engineering and risk mitigation across fire safety projects Collaborating with design, operational, and commercial teams to ensure seamless project handover The Candidate We are looking for a senior professional with a strong background in construction or specialist fire protection contracting. You will ideally have: Proven experience in a Pre-Construction Director / Head of Pre-Construction / Senior Pre-Con role A background in estimating, commercial management, or project delivery Experience working on frameworks, social housing, healthcare, or public sector projects Excellent leadership, client-facing, and strategic skills Why Join?
