About the Role We are looking for a proactive and commercially minded Quantity Surveyor to join my clients growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with around 2 to 5 years' experience who is looking to further develop their commercial skills within a supportive engineering environment. Working closely with Project Managers, Design Engineers and our commercial team, you will play a key role in ensuring projects are commercially managed from inception through to completion. You will assist in maximising project profitability, managing commercial risk and maintaining strong relationships with clients and subcontractors. Key Responsibilities As a Quantity Surveyor, your responsibilities will include: Preparing, submitting and tracking applications for payment. Monitoring certificates, invoices and payment schedules. Raising Early Warning Notices (EWNs) and managing change requests and project variations. Assisting with the preparation of project estimates and cost forecasts. Producing and presenting monthly Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs). Monitoring project costs, purchase orders and commercial performance. Reviewing project contracts and ensuring contractual obligations are understood and met. Assisting with the review of contract terms and conditions. Preparing subcontract documentation and supporting subcontract management. Understanding project programmes and monitoring commercial progress against delivery. Building and maintaining effective relationships with client commercial teams. Supporting the wider commercial team with day-to-day quantity surveying activities. Identifying commercial risks and opportunities throughout the project lifecycle. About You You will ideally have: Essential At least 2 years' experience in a Quantity Surveying role within the water industry. A degree (or equivalent qualification) in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline. A good understanding of commercial processes and project cost management. A good NEC3/4 Understanding Strong numerical and analytical skills. Excellent communication skills with the confidence to build relationships with clients and colleagues. Good organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities. Desirable Experience working with a variety of contract forms. Knowledge of contract change management and variation processes. Experience preparing estimates and cost plans. Familiarity with payment applications and certification processes. Experience supporting commercial negotiations. This role is ideal for professionals who thrive in a client-facing environment , where you will take full ownership of projects from initial concept to completion . You will manage a portfolio of projects, including operational offices, transport hubs, bus depots, ferry terminals, and other public-facing facilities . Your focus will be on delivering high-quality, compliant, and cost-effective solutions while working closely with stakeholders, consultants, and contractors in live, occupied environments . Key Responsibilities Act as the client-side lead for building fabric refurbishment, structural repairs, and construction projects, including roofing, fa ades, fire safety upgrades, accessibility improvements, and drainage works. Develop and manage project scopes, technical specifications, tender documentation, and governance papers to ensure alignment with public-sector requirements. Oversee the work of consultants, contractors, and stakeholders to deliver projects on time, within budget, and to the required standards. Ensure all works are delivered safely, compliantly, and in accordance with public-sector procurement and governance frameworks . Ideal Candidate We are looking for someone with: Proven experience as a client-side Project Manager , preferably within a public-sector, local authority or client led environment . A strong track record in building fabric refurbishment, structural repairs, and project delivery in operational settings. Experience in producing high-quality project documentation, scopes, and tender information tailored to public-sector needs. Knowledge of fire safety upgrades, accessibility improvements, and drainage/external works . A solid understanding of project cost, programme, risk, and change control in a client-side capacity. The ability to work effectively in live, occupied environments while maintaining safety and compliance.
