Job Title: Plumber HMP (Prison Estate) Location: HMP Highdown (SM2 5PJ) Salary: Competitive / £200-£225 per day (DOE) Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00am 4:00pm Job Type: Full-time / Contract About the Role We are looking for a qualified and reliable Plumber to join our team working within the prison estate. The role involves carrying out plumbing installation, maintenance, and repair works across secure facilities while ensuring all work meets safety, compliance, and operational standards. This is a unique opportunity to work in a stable environment with consistent hours and long-term work, supporting the maintenance and improvement of essential infrastructure. Key Responsibilities Carry out plumbing installation, maintenance, and repair works. Fault finding and diagnostics on plumbing, heating, and drainage systems. Installation and maintenance of pipework, sanitary ware, and associated fixtures. Ensure all work complies with current regulations and health & safety requirements. Complete relevant job documentation and reports. Work safely and follow all site security procedures. Liaise with site management and other trades when required. Respond to reactive maintenance issues and planned maintenance works. Requirements NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Plumbing (or equivalent). Proven experience in plumbing maintenance and installation work. Knowledge of water regulations and plumbing standards. Happy to go through the vetting clearance process. Ability to pass enhanced security clearance for prison work. Good communication and problem-solving skills. Experience working within commercial or public sector environments preferred. Full UK driving licence preferred. What We Offer Competitive pay rates. The role involves carrying out a range of plumbing maintenance, repairs, and general multi-trade works across secure facilities, ensuring all tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a stable environment offering consistent hours and long-term work, supporting the maintenance and improvement of essential public-sector infrastructure. Key Responsibilities Carry out plumbing maintenance, repairs, and installations. Diagnose and rectify faults on plumbing and drainage systems. Undertake general multi-trade duties including basic carpentry, painting, patch plastering, tiling, and general maintenance works. Ensure all work is completed in accordance with relevant regulations and health & safety requirements. Complete job sheets, reports, and associated documentation accurately. Work safely and follow all prison security procedures. Liaise with site management and other trades to ensure works are completed efficiently. Working closely with our engineers & office team, you will be involved in projects from initial enquiry through to completion and invoicing. You will be based within our established office team and supported by experienced administrative staff, engineers, and directors. The role is focused on coordinating and developing the department rather than carrying out all administrative functions independently, allowing you to concentrate on delivering an efficient and high-quality service to our customers. Key Responsibilities Preparing quotations for domestic heating, plumbing, and maintenance works. Coordinating engineer diaries and scheduling works efficiently. About You The ideal candidate will have experience within the plumbing, heating or mechanical services industry and understand the practical requirements of coordinating works and supporting engineers. Essential Skills & Experience Experience within the plumbing, heating, HVAC, or mechanical services sector. Good technical understanding of domestic heating and plumbing systems. Experience preparing quotations and managing works. Strong organisational and communication skills. Ability to prioritise workloads and manage multiple ongoing jobs. Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and job management software. Professional and customer-focused approach. Preferred Experience Whilst not essential, preference will be given to candidates with experience or qualifications in one or more of the following areas: Gas Safe registered. OFTEC registered. Air source heat pumps and renewable heating technologies. Domestic heating system design and specification. Service, maintenance and fault-finding of domestic heating systems.
