Estimator - Structural Steel Southwest England Full-time, Permanent Salary 35-50K DOE + Benefits Career Progression Opportunity Are you an experienced Estimator looking to bring your skills to a well-established and growing structural steel business? Our client, a reputable steel fabrication company based in the Southwest, is seeking a detail-oriented and commercially minded Estimator to join their commercial team. You'll be working on a wide range of steel projects-from industrial units and portal frames to complex multi-storey structures. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and is keen to take more ownership of the tendering process, with support to grow into a more senior role over time. What You'll Be Doing Prepare accurate and competitive estimates for structural steelwork projects Analyse project drawings, specifications, and tender documents Liaise with clients, main contractors, engineers, and suppliers to gather pricing and technical information Conduct material take-offs and prepare cost breakdowns for labour, materials, and subcontractors Identify project risks, value engineering opportunities, and alternative solutions Attend pre- and post-tender meetings where required Support handover to the contracts team and assist with procurement planning What We're Looking For Minimum 3 years of experience in estimating within structural steel, construction, or a related sector Strong understanding of steel fabrication, erection processes, and associated costs Able to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications Commercially aware with strong numerical and analytical skills Excellent communication and negotiation abilities Why Join Our Client? Estimator Full-time, Permanent Location: Devizes, Wiltshire (Office-based) Salary: 35,000 - 45,000 DOE Our client, who operates within the luxury construction/retail sector is seeking a talented Estimator to join their team. This crucial role will collaborate with internal teams to ensure the seamless transition of projects from the initial inquiry to final production. You will be responsible for creating detailed estimates for bespoke projects, collaborating with designers and clients to bring their architectural visions to life. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced professional to work with exceptional materials and truly shape stunning architectural pieces. Key Responsibilities Produce precise CAD drawings for pricing, client presentations, and final production Liaise directly with clients, architects, designers, and contractors to clarify specifications and exceed expectations Collaborate with internal departments, including sales, purchasing, and production, to ensure a smooth and efficient transition of orders Maintain and update cost databases, ensuring all pricing information is accurate and current Progress orders from the initial estimate to the final proforma stage, ensuring all details are captured Obtain quotes from suppliers and subcontractors as needed to support project estimates Perform detailed quantity take-offs from both manual and CAD drawings to accurately estimate project requirements Skills and Experience Previous experience in estimating within the construction industry or a similar field is essential Proficiency in CAD software is essential, with the ability to produce technical drawings Competent in using Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook Proven experience working effectively with demanding, high-net-worth clients, architects, and designers Exceptional time management, organisational, and project management skills A keen eye for detail and a professional demeanor A team player who can collaborate effectively across multiple departments and with external stakeholders If you are a driven and experienced Estimator looking for a new challenge, we would be keen to hear from you!
