Key Responsibilities Assist in the setting out and survey control for major highways works, including earthworks, drainage, pavement construction, and structures. Interpret technical drawings, plans, and specifications to ensure on-site works align with design requirements. Support the management of quality control procedures, ensuring works comply with project tolerances, standards, and specifications. Coordinate with subcontractors, design teams, and other engineering disciplines to ensure safe and efficient delivery. Conduct as-built surveys, maintain accurate site records, and contribute to progress reporting. Support the Site Agent / Section Engineer in managing HSEQ standards across the project. Assist with method statements, risk assessments, and temporary works coordination. Help ensure environmental compliance in sensitive areas, in line with project targets and mitigation plans. Essential Requirements Degree or HNC/HND in Civil Engineering or related discipline. Minimum 2+ years of on-site experience in civil engineering (preferably highways, earthworks, drainage or structures). Proficient in setting out using GPS, total station, and levelling equipment. Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and quality requirements. Excellent communication and organisational skills. Working knowledge of CDM Regulations, temporary works, and site safety procedures. Full UK driving licence. Desirable Experience on National Highways frameworks or major roads projects (e.g. DCO schemes). Familiarity with NEC contracts and site documentation. Progress towards ICE or IStructE Chartership or Technician Membership. CSCS card (Engineering / Supervisory level). SMSTS / SSSTS (preferred). The project involves the full upgrade of the A66 between Penrith (M6) and Scotch Corner (A1 M ) , spanning approximately 80km. The scheme will convert remaining single carriageway sections to dual carriageway, improve key junctions, deliver bypasses, and enhance route safety and resilience. Key highlights of the scheme include: Dualling of six existing single carriageway sections to improve capacity and journey times Enhanced safety and reduced congestion along a key strategic east west freight corridor Significant civil engineering challenges across environmentally sensitive and complex terrain Integration of modern delivery methods under the Project Speed initiative Commitment to environmental standards, with biodiversity net gain and carbon reduction targets A long-term, nationally significant project offering excellent professional development potential The scheme recently received Development Consent Order (DCO) approval, allowing it to progress into full delivery. Unite People Build is partnering with an infrastructure specialist contractor, to help recruit a Health and Safety Manager for a civil engineering project in the local area. The H&S Manager will be responsible for supporting the the safety team, culture and process on the project, working towards the continued safety and health of personnel working on the project. Key Responsibilities Providing support to the project team in the safe delivery of the contract Assist in the production of site specific procedures/ arrangements and plans Ensure project compliance with statutory legislation, contractual requirements and industry best practice. Assist in the preparation and review of risk assessments and safe systems of work. Actively promote behaviours key to a positive health, safety and wellbeing culture. Support and carry out inspection and monitoring activities and effective use of the arising data. Compile and report monthly KPIs and maintain the project Dashboard Assist/lead in investigations into accidents and incidents and root causes, and support the implementation of corrective actions.
