Vacancy for a full-time chartered engineer We require a chartered structural engineer (M.I. Struct.E or structurally-orientated M.I.C.E) to work in Kent comprising two engineers and a book-keeper. There is no public transport so a car is essential. The work is mainly domestic, split roughly 50/50 between structural design and inspections/reported, although they get some small commercial properties to look at. The design work is obviously mainly office-based apart from an initial survey of the property concerned. The experience of small building design requirements is important and familiarity with Autocad would be an advantage. Design jobs range from small house extensions and loft conversions to alteration to retail units, offices and occasionally schools. The inspection and report work involves inspecting structural defects, such as subsidence damage, roof defects, failing retaining walls, corroded balconies and fire escapes. the successful candidate must be able to write very good English. They have several branch offices spread out over the South-East so there is not much need for long-distance travel to sites, but the candidate must be prepared to travel to sites in kent and Sussex and occasionally to London, Surrey and Essex.
