About the Opportunities:
Working within the surveying team, you will be responsible for all the commercial matters on either individual or multiple packages around London and the surrounding Home Counties (mostly inside the M25).
Individual package sizes vary depending on the size and capability of each subcontractor, but a rough range is from £1 million up to £20 million each for most of the businesses and then a couple who would look at Senior Surveyors based on 1 to 2 packages at a time with values of £20 million to £40 million each.
Company size varies as well, with the smallest of these contractors turning over around £40 million per annum and the largest turning over around £200 million per annum. We have clients of all sizes and capabilities within these fields, currently looking to recruit but most currently turnover around £50 million to £150 million per annum.
While reporting to the Commercial Director or Managing Surveyor of each business, you will be expected to take packages from the start through to final account, monitoring costs and maximising profit while working with the operational team to keep projects in line and develop client relationships.
Also, for candidates looking for a progressive move, our clients have asked us to highlight that there is room for these positions to progress and candidates looking to step straight into a Senior QS / Commercial Managers role, will have the opportunity if the right level of capability is apparent.
About the Requirements:
To be considered for these roles, candidates will need to be qualified (or at least part qualified) in Quantity Surveying / Commercial Management and will need to have gained experience working for rival subcontractors in one of the specialist fields mentioned above in the Sectors of Work. Candidates who have not worked for Groundwork, RC Frame, Basement or Enabling Works Sub Contractors, cannot be considered.
Due to the level of these positions, it is also important that candidates have the ability to manage their own projects without supervision and are based in the South East (around London), so that the daily commute to our client’s offices and sites, is a reasonable one. Outside of this, the usual Surveying duties will apply.
About the Salary / Rates / Packages:
For candidates at the right level of experience, our clients are offering very strong basic salaries, plus the option of a car allowance, travel allowance or company car. In addition, each company’s benefits structure is different, but some offer a pension, health care, and other fringe benefits for PAYE employees.
For candidates looking to work on a self-employed basis, suitable daily rates will be agreed upon, plus any travel costs and basic benefits in line with a long-term/permanent role.
How to Apply:
I am more than happy to discuss this opportunity with people over the phone or face to face in a fully confidential manner. And I know this is an incestuous sector and I fully understand the importance of keeping things discrete.
Alternatively, it would be ideal to see a copy of your CV to understand your previous experience and employment. In line with GDPR, nothing will be done with your CV/details until we have discussed the role in detail anyway, but having gained an understanding of your formal past, this may help when we come to talk and discuss the option.
