About the role
Due to our continued growth and success, McDermotts is seeking a Senior Estimator to join our dynamic team. The role is ideal for someone with strong experience in commercial groundworks and civil engineering looking to contribute to a thriving, family-founded business with national reach.
Key Responsibilities
· Record, review and prioritise new tender opportunities as they arise.
· Analyse Tender Document including but not limited to drawings, specifications, scope of works, site investigations to ensure a robust and competitive tender submission.
· Engage and liaise with other stakeholders within the business including commercial, production, planning and procurement as required.
· Where required, produce accurate take-offs and BOQs using appropriate software.
· Ensure appropriate sub-contract and supplier quotations are obtained, collated and assessed for competitiveness.
· Price bills/schedules analytically from first principles and produce quote comparisons using estimating software.
· Evaluate risks and opportunities including value engineering options.
· Critically review and analyse client programmes to ensure alignment with agreed outputs, methodology and sequencing.
· Lead and present tender adjudications in detail seeking final adjudication from company directors.
· Submit detailed tenders (in required format), including any assumptions or clarifications as required.
· Attend client mid, pre and post tender meetings as required.
· Prepare and deliver tender information for internal handover to the contract team.
· Maintain and develop collaborative customer relationships.
· Obtain and collate feedback on tender submission.
· Assist in the development of trainee estimators.
· Maintain and update cost databases, records, and historical data for future benchmarking.
· Provide accurate cost reports and advice to senior management.
Qualifications & Experience/ Knowledge:
Essential:
· at least 5 years’ experience in an estimating background or similar role.
· knowledge of varying forms of contract JCT, NEC3/4.
· Strong commercial and analytical acumen with ability to analyse data.
· Understanding of standard and unique Risks & Opportunities.
· in depth practical knowledge of varying forms of measurement SMM7, CESSM, Highway MOM, NRM.
· Appropriate higher-level qualification in Construction / Civil Engineering.
Desirable:
· Appropriate Civil Engineering experience.
· Experience of Conquest estimating packages an advantage but not essential.
· Working towards membership of a professional body (e.g. RICS, ICE, or CIOB).

Job Purpose
We are looking for an Estimator to join our client’s fast-paced and growing team in Sussex. As an Estimator in the growing team, you’ll enjoy a varied role estimating for highways groundworks, civils and surfacing projects.
Our clients’ estimators establish strong relationships with their customers. Together with their quantity surveyors and project managers, they are the main points of contact for members of the public, site managers, customers and other external stakeholders.

Job Purpose
We are looking for an Estimator to join our client’s fast-paced and growing team in Sussex. As an Estimator in the growing team, you’ll enjoy a varied role estimating for highways groundworks, civils and surfacing projects.
Our clients’ estimators establish strong relationships with their customers. Together with their quantity surveyors and project managers, they are the main points of contact for members of the public, site managers, customers and other external stakeholders.

Estimation, business development & customer service:
Assist in the pricing of tenders, performing take-offs and compiling tender documents for review by Estimators and Senior Estimators

Previous surfacing and small civils experience (desirable)
Relevant health and safety qualifications (desirable)

We are looking for an experienced groundworks Project Manager to take responsibility of a large existing Project in Cambridge.
The ideal candidate will have come from working for a subcontractor within the groundworks residential/civils sector
You will be responsible for resources allocation, team management, planning and monitoring progress and budget management.
Job Description:
Main duties include accountability for the following:
* Project Delivery.
* Manage the day-to-day working, from ensuring the correct material turns up before a job, to explaining the work ethics and activities to colleagues.
* Managing the Site Engineer, Foremen, labour and plant
* Communication and information flow with the Contracts manager and the client
* Implementing the Company Health & Safety Management Systems and Procedures and Quality Assurance Procedures including making safety inspections of the site when work is underway and ensuring regulations relating to health, safety and the environment (HSE) are adhered to
* Reporting progress , maintain and update project reporting, checkpoints and financial reporting to a high standard.
* Co-ordinate required support levels and training.
* Preparing the site and liaising with other construction professionals such as architects, engineers, buyers, estimators and surveyors before construction work starts
* Developing the programme of work and strategy for the project, planning ahead to prevent problems on site before they occur, for example, planning the delivery and storage of equipment and materials
* have proven ability to oversee the running of a large groundworks projects covering 278, civils & residential works
* using construction management software packages to plan smooth work flows

• Ensure engineering consultants design to the cost plan and client brief (Employers’ Requirements)
• Liaise with Pre-construction Commercial Manager/ Pre-construction Surveyor, Pre-construction Design Manager/ Technical Manager and Engineering Manager to ensure risks identified at feasibility stage are managed and mitigated. Take steps to enhance margin where possible.
• Where land opportunities have been secured manage engineering consultants to develop engineering design proposals from feasibility stage through to planning/ technical submission. Works are to be in line with design programme timescales, and proposals are to be in line with agreed specification and cost plan. Closely work with the Engineering Manager, Pre-construction Commercial Manager/ Pre-construction Surveyor and Pre-construction Operations Manager on these matters to ensure projects achieve key milestones and are profitable.
• Identify reports and surveys required and review findings. Ensure any matters affecting cost are notified to Pre-construction Commercial Manager/Pre-construction Quantity Surveyor. Ensure any matters affecting deign are notified to Pre-construction Design Manager/ Technical Manager
• Review and check design solutions for road and sewers, foundations, drainage and proposed levels etc. for technical approval submissions and procurement packages in line with design programme timescales. Ensure any matters affecting cost are notified to Pre-construction Commercial Manager/Pre-construction Quantity Surveyor.
• Secure technical approval for S38/278 roads and S104 sewers adoptions where required in line with design programme and construction programme timescales.
• Develop feasibility stage utility appraisal through to obtaining fixed quotes for works required and liaise with Pre-construction Commercial Manager/Pre-construction Quantity Surveyor to procure the works in line with design programme and construction programme timescales. Liaise with Pre-construction Operations Manager and Contracts Manager/ Site Manager to co-ordinate service diversion/ disconnection works and temporary suppliers that are required early in the construction programme.
• Ensure MPAN’s/ MPRN’s are obtained and provided to shipper so that meter call offs can be undertaken in line with construction programme
4. Mobilisation stage/ During Construction
• Undertake regular site visits and check that the works carried out comply with the drawings, specifications and are to the required standards and that any testing or validation criteria has been satisfied.
• Liaise with subcontractors and adopting authorities to ensure works are suitable for adoption and necessary signoff and adoption certification is provided
• Support operations and commercial departments with regard to technical questions relating to procurement, programming, and safe undertaking of engineering works
• Attend design team meetings and client meetings where required
5. Tender Opportunities
• Interrogate tender documents from an engineering viewpoint and provide guidance and support to bid managers and estimators
• Support tender process through providing design narrative for use by bid writers for quality submissions
• Attend / contribute to tender launches, midterm reviews, adjudications and handovers
• Ensure consultants and design staff complete their duties under CDM
