About the Role:
As a Grounds Operative, you will be a crucial part of our front-line team, ensuring that parks, highways, cemeteries, and conservation areas are well-maintained and inviting for the community. This temporary position offers a competitive hourly rate of 14.00, and the contract length is six months.
What You'll Do:
- Undertake maintenance work including grass cutting, shrub maintenance, and litter picking.
- Trim and reduce hedges while maintaining flower beds across South Gloucestershire.
- Conduct routine maintenance operations in public parks, open spaces, roadside verges, and woodland areas.
- Use commercial powered hand tools and equipment, such as brush cutters, hedge trimmers, and pedestrian mowers, while adhering to safety regulations.
- Assist with minor landscaping tasks, including planting bedding plants, shrubs, and trees.
- Help maintain the council's cycle route network and assist in the collection of fly-tipping waste when needed.
What We're Looking For:
- Experience: Demonstrable experience in gardening or grounds maintenance roles.
- Equipment Proficiency: Ability to operate commercial grounds equipment such as strimmers, hedge trimmers, and leaf blowers.
- Driving License: A full, valid UK driving license is essential. Experience driving a long wheelbase transit style tipper is preferred.
- Attention to Detail: Ability to follow instructions, read maps, and complete records accurately.
- Health & Safety Knowledge: A strong understanding of health and safety risks and hazards associated with grounds maintenance work.
