Job Description
Seeking a Freelance Design Manager with proven Ministry of Justice (MoJ) or HMPPS project experience. Responsible for leading, coordinating, and assuring multidisciplinary design delivery across all project stages.
Key Responsibilities

Manage the full design process from concept to delivery.

Coordinate architectural, M&E, structural, security, and specialist design inputs.

Ensure compliance with MoJ Technical Standards, security requirements, and governance procedures.

Lead design reviews, workshops, and stakeholder engagement (incl. HMPPS, governors, estates teams).

Oversee design assurance, risk management, and CDM/BIM/ISO19650 compliance.

Maintain the design programme and manage design deliverables, submissions, and change control.

Liaise with contractors, consultants, and statutory bodies to enable design development.
Requirements

Strong MoJ/HMPPS project experience (mandatory).

Background in design management within construction or public sector estates.

Understanding of secure environments, MoJ governance, and technical standards.

Excellent stakeholder coordination, communication, and assurance skills.
