The role;

The role;
Reporting to the Senior Quantity Surveyor it is important that the Quantity Surveyor possesses excellent communication and interpersonal skills as they will be required to build long term client relationships. They will also be responsible for assisting with the day to day management of the wider Commercial team which includes coaching and developing the Assistant Quantity Surveyors.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Working within cross functional teams, to deliver projects to the correct price and specification, on or ahead of programme and on or under budget.
Completing the pre-construction activities and ensuring that projects are setup on the ERP system in accordance with the contract documents and within the required lead in period
Maintaining a full and detailed command of the project brief, including the build methodology, scope of works, programme and costs
Preparing and issuing Sub-contract tenders and working alongside the Contract Managers to negotiate and place Sub-contract orders
Reviewing and approving the fortnightly sub-contractor payments
Day to day Contract Administration including variations, applications for payment and notices
Liaising with the Finance department on a weekly basis and providing the business with up to date information on payments, overdue debt and retention
Identifying commercial risks and potential solutions and highlighting them to the relevant members of the project team and/or Senior Management
Competing monthly cost reports, presenting them to the wider business and Senior Management team and proposing actions to improve performance where possible
Ensuring the continuous development of the Assistant and Quantity Surveyors
Maintaining close dialogue with the Construction team to determine site progress and other site related issues
Assisting with the day to day management of the Commercial department, reporting on project and individual performance and maintaining accountability for all allocated projects or clients

* Agree working arrangements with all key service providers
* Agree terms and conditions and raise orders for significant work packages
System Development
Develop cost systems and procedures to streamline cost control, ordering procedures and commercial frameworks.

You shall work with the project manager in preparing lump sum bids, target costs and budget prices for prospective clients including the following:

Project Quantity Surveyor - 2 year contract - outside IR35
The project is a multi-million pound mixed use development, comprising of 12 buildings. The complex will include scientific laboratories, research centres, distribution facilities, offices and communal areas.
Project QS will be required to support the Project Manager. Be responsible for the delivery and financial outcome of a project, ensuring such activities are in line with the Commercial Strategy and meet all operational, financial, commercial, legislative standards and targets.
Project Quantity Surveyor - Requirements
• Educated to BA or BSc Degree Level with a Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar role
• Experienced working with Project Teams and Client Surveyors in either a main contracting or project delivery environment
• Experience of NEC3/NEC4 Contract Forms

Project Quantity Surveyor - Responsibilities
• Support the bid process, particularly identifying significant risks within enquiry documentation, terms and conditions and similar.

About the role:
As a Quantity Surveyor, you will primarily be responsible for all the commercial and operational aspects of the Logistics Management Centre.
You will be commercially responsible for up to £10 million of spend, ensuring Thames Water meets all its contractual, legal and commercial obligations whilst engaging and advising professional service colleagues such as Senior Management Accountants and Operations Managers.
A tenacious approach and a keen eye for detail are required whilst carrying out site measurements, estimating/producing month end valuation documentation and assessing payment applications up to £100K in value.
You will safeguard Thames Water against claims in excess of £1 million per annum and deliver efficiency savings to Thames Water of £1 million per annum.
You will oversee the management of 2 FTE therefore the ability to plan, monitor and motivate are key to succeeding in this role.

Reporting to a Senior Quantity Surveyor or (Senior) Commercial Manager, you will be responsible for, but not limiting to;
Carrying out the commercial role on the project in line with company's processes and procedures to ensure the contractual and commercial position for the Company is protected and financial performance is enhanced.
Have a full understanding and appreciation of the contract under which your project is operating and the risks and opportunities this presents.
Develop a good understanding of the wider aspects of Health, Safety and Environmental law affecting a Facilities business.
Develop and support junior team on projects.
Understand and implement the requirements of Health Safety, Quality and Environmental procedures and conduct all duties in a manner consistent with these.
Develop a high level of competence in the application of IT skills to facilitate own role within the Company
Develop a wider knowledge of business systems to manage and present business informationTo be considered for this opportunity, you must have, but not limited to;
A degree or equivalent in Quantity Surveying or Construction Management with Surveying
Robust Quantity Surveying experience in refurbishment projects across Healthcare, Schools, MoJ (Prisons and Courts) and offices
Experience managing subcontractors and creating packages
CSCS Card
Ideally a Professional Membership: RICS or MCIOB
