Our client is looking to appoint a General Builder / Carpenter, who will report to the Site Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for the provision of a safe, efficient and cost-effective service stream on all areas of service delivery, ensuring the highest quality of work is provided in the timescales.
The role will focus on managing the repair and refurbishment of the site, together with construction of new buildings. They are a small and friendly team, and over time, the successful applicant will have increasing opportunities to diversify within the organisation if desired.
Duties and key responsibilities:
Ensuring all work is completed safely, on time, within budget
Read blueprints, drawings and sketches to fully grasp requirements
Take measurements and calculate the size and amount of material needed
Install structures and fixtures, such as windows and molding
Construct building frameworks, including walls, floors, and doorframes
Lay out floorings, roofings or drywalls ensuring they are leveled and compatible
Help erect, level, and install building framework with the aid of rigging hardware and cranes
Inspect places and conduct repairs or maintenance
Build scaffolding and other construction structures
Communication – ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of people, including key stakeholders
Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication
Proactive, ‘can do’ approach
Ability to prioritise their workload
Good attention to detail and ability to show initiative
A technical, logical thought process
Desirable Key Skills and Qualifications:
Good practical skills
The ability to work carefully and accurately
The ability to work as part of a team
A good awareness of health and safety issues
An ability to read technical plans
Proven experience as carpenter and general building work
Hands-on experience in working with carpentry materials
Excellent understanding of carpentry techniques and methods of installation and construction
Proficient in using electrical and manual equipment and measurement tools (powered saws, hammers, rulers etc.)
Ability to read technical documents and drawings
Willingness to follow safety guidelines at all times
Good knowledge of English
Good understanding of basic maths
High school diploma; Successful completion of a carpentry apprenticeship program is required
Suitable to take an enhanced DBS check
Working with a Grade II listed building would be an advantage.
Confident using the internet to research products, prices and procedures - and good day-to-day computer literacy and numeracy skills.
Commercially aware with excellent organisational skills
Excellent communication skills and customer focused
Self-motivated and ambitious
