Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Production Manager to work for a unique visual design consultancy based in London.

You will be charged with leading the Production Department,  ensuring that the Production Department is actively responsible in contributing to the development and expansion of the company and delivering projects to enhance client satisfaction.
The right candidate will be responsible for managing, delegating responsibilities and tasks for the Production Project Manager, Technical Manager and Foremen. You will be responsible for continuous improvement initiatives and streamlining production processes; ensuring the department functions at optimum productivity and all projects run to schedule.

You will have experience in financial aspects; estimating / costing – and experience of implementing systems and procedures at the management level.

Key Responsibilities:


  • To demonstrate excellent leadership and management skills
    • To lead the Production Department at Elemental Design and through this organise and manage a professional, productive and safe production department
    • To ensure that the Production Department is actively responsible in aiding the development and expansion of the company
    • To line manage the Production Project Manager, Technical Manager and Foremen, and to delegate responsibilities and tasks where appropriate
    • To attend management meetings and effectively contribute to company decisions
    • To continuously improve and streamline production processes


  • To demonstrate extensive knowledge of production processes and materials
    • To be an expert in the field of production and to bring suitable contemporary ideas forward
    • To monitor the effectiveness of construction methods and production chains, intervening where necessary
    • To keep up to date on new materials and methods of production and implement where appropriate
    • To build good relationships with external suppliers and freelancers, expanding the existing database and introducing new sub-contractors to the company
    • To attend construction specific meetings and to liaise with other construction professionals such as structural engineers, surveyors, health and safety representatives and site managers
    • To oversee the production workshops, to document future improvement schedules and to update complete assessments of the workshop areas on an annual basis
    • To oversee quality control and to ensure all goods and services meet excellent standards


  • To demonstrate a sound understanding of the importance of Health and Safety in the workplace
    • To implement and follow all statutory health and safety requirements in the production department
    • To ensure a fully certified AoFAQ Level 2 Emergency First Aid at Work employee is onsite at all times
    • To follow health and safety protocols, and follow up procedures where necessary
    • To oversee the maintenance and safety of all equipment including the company vehicles
    • To ensure all projects comply with H&S protocol and to ensure accurate RAMS are produced for each installation


  • To take responsibility for all HR functions within the department
    • To be responsible for staff development in the production department through the appraisal process
    • To have scheduled regular individual meetings with the production team, providing honest and constructive feedback and identifying any concerns promptly
    • To monitor the workload of individuals in the production team, and support with prioritisation and reallocation of tasks as necessary
    • To continuously improve the quality of the workforce and ensure the staffing structure is at its most effective
    • To maintain an overview of holiday, TOIL and sick leave calendars and to consider all requests before approval, ensuring the department is sufficiently resourced at all times


  • To be accountable for the financial performance of the department
    • To be accountable for departmental financial performance and to oversee and monitor the profitability of individual project budgets
    • To have an overview of project related timesheets and to analyse financial reports regularly to monitor productivity of department
    • To produce estimations, forecasting production costs as accurately as possible by studying briefs, designs and technical drawings and establishing missing information with Design and Project Management departments
    • To work with Foremen to ensure projects are delivered within budget and all materials and labour are accurately monitored




  • To be responsible for ensuring the department functions at optimum productivity and all projects run to schedule
    • To support team in prioritising work effectively in order to ensure that departmental deadlines are met
    • To provide project related purchase lists for the Production Team
    • To use Synergist to produce schedules and accurate timelines
    • To accurately predict required labour in advance and ensure that the department is adequately resourced without exceeding project budgets


  • To ensure excellent communication is maintained within the department and across the rest of the business
    • To ensure that the Production Department works efficiently as a team, that morale is consistently high whilst a strong work ethic is maintained
    • To communicate effectively and concisely whilst giving instructions and guidance to production staff
    • To ensure that the Production Department communicates and liaises effectively with Design and Project Management departments
    • To ensure that accurate and up-to-date records are kept on all projects, and any changes are communicated immediately to the rest of the team
