About the Company
Established over 25 years ago, this £120 million turnover business specialises in Concrete Frames, Groundworks and Basement Construction. With satellite offices in the South West and the Midlands they have a strong coverage of projects with package values ranging from £5 million up to £35 million each (currently), covering the residential, commercial, leisure and education sectors. We have been preferred suppliers to this company for over 10 years and maintain a strong relationship with all the directors of the business.
The MD takes an active role in the safety department making sure it is at the forefront of everything they do, not only to please clients but most importantly to make sure every person goes home safely at the end of every day. He is proud to stand by their safety record and the constant measures they take to maintain and improve this department.
In addition to safety, the focus on rewarding their staff is demonstrated in the constant career development that is offered and the targeted bonus structures that are in place for all the management and commercial teams. For instance, the project management bonus is several thousand pound and is paid twice a year. This is measured on a quarterly basis based on certain key performance indicators such as safety, programme deadlines and commercial statistics. This gives each PM a real gauge of what they have to do to earn each bonus and it is worth pointing out, every PM is hitting above 85% of their bonus which in turn equates to the contracts manager overseeing these projects receiving their bonus as well. About the Opportunity
We have been asked to recruit a Contracts Manager for this company. The role will include the usual duties associated with managing a selection of live projects (usually between 3-5 schemes at different stages of completion), while reporting to the company directors (primarily the operations director and MD).
Day to day duties will include overseeing individual site teams, which will be headed up with project managers and site managers, making sure they are reporting any potential risks or issues, are staying on time / programme whilst also maintaining costs. This role will also be client facing as you will be expected to liaise with clients on each project to represent the company, making sure client’s specifications are being met and they are happy from the preconstruction phase all the way through to delivery.
The locations of projects this role will oversee will mainly be based inside London, but depending on where the successful applicant is based (i.e. where you live), there may also be the possibility of some projects in the surrounding home counties, so the successful individual will need to manage their time working around this area across a maximum of 5 jobs at any one time.
This exciting opportunity is to head-up the sub & superstructure side of the business so individuals need to be very experienced in this aspect as our client is only looking to consider applicants from a civil engineering background so that a strong technical understanding is there when interacting with direct staff and client contacts.

The basic salary offered for this position is £90,000 - £130,000 per annum depending on the level of exposure in this sector, especially experience with superstructure engineering. The MD takes an active role in the safety department making sure it is at the forefront of everything they do, not only to please clients but most importantly to make sure every person goes home safely at the end of every day. In addition to safety, the focus on rewarding their staff is demonstrated in the constant career development that is offered and the targeted bonus structures that are in place for all the management and commercial teams. For instance, the project management bonus is several thousand pound and is paid twice a year. About the Opportunity
We have been asked to recruit a Contracts Manager for this company. The role will include the usual duties associated with managing a selection of live projects (usually between 3-5 schemes at different stages of completion), while reporting to the company directors (primarily the operations director and MD).
Day to day duties will include overseeing individual site teams, which will be headed up with project managers and site managers, making sure they are reporting any potential risks or issues, are staying on time / programme whilst also maintaining costs. This role will also be client facing as you will be expected to liaise with clients on each project to represent the company, making sure client’s specifications are being met and they are happy from the preconstruction phase all the way through to delivery.
The locations of projects this role will oversee will mainly be based inside London, but depending on where the successful applicant is based (i.e. where you live), there may also be the possibility of some projects in the surrounding home counties, so the successful individual will need to manage their time working around this area across a maximum of 5 jobs at any one time.

Each opportunity will report to the company’s commercial director and you will be responsible for anywhere from 1 to 5 live packages at any one time (depending on your level of experience and the individual package sizes). Package values for each of these contractors range from £3m up to £50m each (with the majority being between £5m to £25m each) and all are in or around London.

About the Requirements:
The requirements for these opportunities are fairly straight forward;
I can only consider individuals who have worked as a Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor for either Groundwork or Concrete Frame subcontractors/principal contractors in the UK. My clients have been fairly specific on this point.
Based on the locations, these roles would suit individuals based in or around London, and while some office locations will suit you more than others, it is worth noting, at least two of these positions offer remote working and the rest will all involve a certain amount of autonomy as you will be responsible for managing your own diary to get around your own site locations.
And due to the technical nature of these opportunities, it is also crucial that all applicants are degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management.
About the Benefits & Rewards:
For the right professionals our clients are looking to offer market leading packages including a strong starting salary or day rate with added benefits.
If PAYE you can expect a starting salary ranging from £70,000 to £100,000 depending on your experience, plus a car allowance, full benefits and targeted related bonuses.
If self-employed, day rates range roughly from around £300 to £450 per day (depending on your experience) and you will be covered for travel costs and you will also be given project related bonuses.

We are looking to source an enthusiastic and dynamic individual with sound knowledge of construction methods, safety, health and environmental legislation, and processes and procedures.
Reporting to the SHE Director and Head of H&S (Civil Engineering), the successful candidate will provide help and advice and provide review and support for improvements to the existing SHE procedures.
The post holder should have a proactive and enthusiastic attitude and be able to interact with the site teams, various business units and the Client’s teams to ensure effective relationships are established.
This is a significant role within the Company as we continue to endeavour to keep the workforce free from injury and ill health, help the Company meet our agreed objectives and targets, and ensure improvements to our current systems which provide ongoing compliance with current H&S and Environmental legislation
This is a permanent role, and the package will be between £45k - £55k + package to include accommodation and more.
The SHE Advisor shall:
* Provide support, advice, and guidance to the Project Management team on SHE matters
* Conduct site health, safety & environmental compliance, and behavioural/ cultural audits
* Investigate accidents, incidents, and high potential observations
* Assist with and/or deliver relevant training programmes
* Deliver induction programmes, tool-box talks and briefings if required
* Review relevant company and subcontractor’s paperwork, including existing procedures and forms
* Prepare information for regular site bulletins
* Prepare legislation updates and advisory memos for the site management team and operatives
* Assist in the preparation and updating of construction phase plans, method statements and risk assessments
* Assist in the preparation and updating of environment management plans and site waste management plans
* Be instrumental in encouraging observation reporting
* Attend and represent the company at relevant industry forums
* Lead by example
In addition, from time to time the post holder may be required to:
* Assist with responses to PQQ, Bid, and tender questions, and
* Assist with applications for waste exemptions, consents, licences, etc
Essential candidate criteria
* Formal H&S qualification e.g. NEBOSH General Certificate / Construction Certificate as a minimum
* Holder of CSCS / CSR / Safepass card or proven equivalent
* Preferably a member of a professional association (IOSH/ IIRSM/ APS or equivalent at Grad or Associate as a minimum)
* Demonstrable knowledge of relevant Health & Safety legislation for the region
* Sound understanding of construction processes – especially civil engineering
* Minimum of three years’ dedicated H&S experience in construction or construction related discipline
* Preferably a formal Environmental qualification e.g. IEMA or equivalent
* Understanding of environmental legislation for the region
* Demonstrate strong communication, numeracy and literacy skill
* Awareness and familiarisation with the relevant management standards (18001 / 14001/ HSG65 / etc)
* Good working knowledge of Microsoft packages such as Outlook, Word and Excel
* Awareness of behavioural safety approaches to successful H&S management
