What you will be doing
As the Director of IT you will be responsible for ensuring that our technology is that which most enables the organisation to succeed - be that core back-office systems, desktops, network and infrastructure, automation of processes and the support we give people to use the technology. The Director will be responsible for delivering technical projects that ensure that the provision of IT provides excellent employee, supporter and service-user experiences. Driving modern IT practices, and embracing Cloud - this role will ensure that the British Red Cross is in a good place to use technology impactfully.
You will set targets for the IT strategy with the IDT management team to enable immediate priorities to be met as well as the longer-term vision for the Directorate. Responsible for the IT Budget and workplan, you will ensure resources required to deliver the agreed strategy are identified and an annual plan agreed ensuring progress is monitored and action to address issues taken where required.
You will also ensure that IT requirements for all new projects and programmes are understood and agreed with relevant project sponsors and managers and that Cyber Security is maintained with pro-active plans to ensure continued improvement in this area in line with changes.
You will need to understand how the organisation works and have strong relationships to ensure that a very collaborative approach to experiences is taken. What we are looking for
With a B.Sc. or B.A. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems or a related discipline (or equivalent work experience), you should have:

- Experience of working successfully in an organisational going through significant transformational change.
- Experience of managing a significant budget.
- Experience of producing an IT strategy to meet the needs of a complex organisation.
- Experience of moving an IT organisation into modern ways of working (embracing cloud etc).
- Strong supplier management skills - to ensure a wide range of suppliers and partner deliver as agreed.
- Project delivery experience.
- An understanding of ITIL and good practice in service provision.
- Detailed knowledge of modern business place architectures and technologies (Microsoft technology stack desirable).
- Proven ability to deliver high profile activities to tight timescales.
The Director of IT role sits within the Information and Digital Technology (I&DT) directorate which is there to ensure that the organisation makes the best use of Tech, Data, Digital and Innovation Skills. It has a budget of approximately 11 million pounds and many third-party suppliers.
