As our Assistant Site Manager, you will support the Senior Site Manager with the day to day control of the site, management and delivery of project works and in the management and delivery of a larger scale project.
The project is located in Peterborough and consists of 70 traditionally built units for an existing Client on a design and build basis. We are looking for a driven individual from a solid build background to play a key supporting role in the delivery of quality homes, on time and on budget. Situated on a former golf course on the edge of the village of Stilton, SI works are ongoing to establish a suitable foundation for the project, along with detailed designs for the site wide superstructures. About the Company
Established over 25 years ago, this £120 million turnover business specialises in Concrete Frames, Groundworks and Basement Construction. With satellite offices in the South West and the Midlands they have a strong coverage of projects with package values ranging from £5 million up to £35 million each (currently), covering the residential, commercial, leisure and education sectors. We have been preferred suppliers to this company for over 10 years and maintain a strong relationship with all the directors of the business.
The MD takes an active role in the safety department making sure it is at the forefront of everything they do, not only to please clients but most importantly to make sure every person goes home safely at the end of every day. He is proud to stand by their safety record and the constant measures they take to maintain and improve this department.
In addition to safety, the focus on rewarding their staff is demonstrated in the constant career development that is offered and the targeted bonus structures that are in place for all the management and commercial teams. For instance, the project management bonus is several thousand pound and is paid twice a year. This is measured on a quarterly basis based on certain key performance indicators such as safety, programme deadlines and commercial statistics. This gives each PM a real gauge of what they have to do to earn each bonus and it is worth pointing out, every PM is hitting above 85% of their bonus which in turn equates to the contracts manager overseeing these projects receiving their bonus as well. This is a simple example of how targeted clear reward structures benefit the individual but also the company as a whole.
About the Opportunity
We have been asked to recruit a Contracts Manager for this company. The role will include the usual duties associated with managing a selection of live projects (usually between 3-5 schemes at different stages of completion), while reporting to the company directors (primarily the operations director and MD).
Day to day duties will include overseeing individual site teams, which will be headed up with project managers and site managers, making sure they are reporting any potential risks or issues, are staying on time / programme whilst also maintaining costs. This role will also be client facing as you will be expected to liaise with clients on each project to represent the company, making sure client’s specifications are being met and they are happy from the preconstruction phase all the way through to delivery.
The locations of projects this role will oversee will mainly be based inside London, but depending on where the successful applicant is based (i.e. where you live), there may also be the possibility of some projects in the surrounding home counties, so the successful individual will need to manage their time working around this area across a maximum of 5 jobs at any one time.
This exciting opportunity is to head-up the sub & superstructure side of the business so individuals need to be very experienced in this aspect as our client is only looking to consider applicants from a civil engineering background so that a strong technical understanding is there when interacting with direct staff and client contacts.
About the Benefits and Rewards
The basic salary offered for this position is £90,000 - £130,000 per annum depending on the level of exposure in this sector, especially experience with superstructure engineering. Established over 25 years ago, this £120 million turnover business specialises in Concrete Frames, Groundworks and Basement Construction. With satellite offices in the South West and the Midlands they have a strong coverage of projects with package values ranging from £5 million up to £35 million each (currently), covering the residential, commercial, leisure and education sectors. We have been preferred suppliers to this company for over 10 years and maintain a strong relationship with all the directors of the business.
The MD takes an active role in the safety department making sure it is at the forefront of everything they do, not only to please clients but most importantly to make sure every person goes home safely at the end of every day. He is proud to stand by their safety record and the constant measures they take to maintain and improve this department.
In addition to safety, the focus on rewarding their staff is demonstrated in the constant career development that is offered and the targeted bonus structures that are in place for all the management and commercial teams. For instance, the project management bonus is several thousand pound and is paid twice a year. This is measured on a quarterly basis based on certain key performance indicators such as safety, programme deadlines and commercial statistics. Qualifications & Experience:
Essential:
5 + years of experience in an estimating or related role, preferably in an industrial construction environment; • Understand and apply estimating norms, factors and allowances to project cost components • Understand the full project life cycle and its components of cost. • Understand and develop project CBS and WBS structures • Have experience of working with planning and scheduling to develop construciton programmes. • Work closely with the Commercial Lead, Sales Lead and Capture manager to ensure all commercial tender requirements are completed in a timely manor prior to bid submission • Have good presentation skills and experience of presenting bids to internalally for review • Extensive knowledge and ability to use all MS Office packaged, Especially Excel and Word. • Degree, diploma, or certificate in Mechanical engineering or related discipline from an accredited post-secondary institution; technical training in project management, drafting and engineering design, trade certificates, and/or field experience are definite assets; • NEC3/4 Contract suite implementation. Experienced in the production of fixed price, target cost and reimbursable estimates.

5 + years of experience in an estimating or related role, preferably in an industrial construction environment; • Understand and apply estimating norms, factors and allowances to project cost components • Understand the full project life cycle and its components of cost. • Understand and develop project CBS and WBS structures • Have experience of working with planning and scheduling to develop construciton programmes. • Work closely with the Commercial Lead, Sales Lead and Capture manager to ensure all commercial tender requirements are completed in a timely manor prior to bid submission • Have good presentation skills and experience of presenting bids to internalally for review • Extensive knowledge and ability to use all MS Office packaged, Especially Excel and Word. • Degree, diploma, or certificate in Mechanical engineering or related discipline from an accredited post-secondary institution; technical training in project management, drafting and engineering design, trade certificates, and/or field experience are definite assets; • NEC3/4 Contract suite implementation. Experienced in the production of fixed price, target cost and reimbursable estimates.

Our client is looking for experienced candidates for this role and they must have relevant site engineering and planning experience- groundworks, RC Frame and civil engineering/infrastructure
You would have a good handle on construction methodologies and have produced short term programmes.
Ideally you would have had some planning experience but in a short period of time would be expected to be self-sufficient in planning works for tenders, progress mark-ups, resource loading and be able to advise projects on where they might find opportunity to gain betterment on a project programme.
You will also be expected to contribute to the project reporting using KPIs centred around production rates and outputs.
Planning Overview
The Planning function is key to the success of a project - planning and sequencing the permanent works, logistics and temporary works phasing, engaging our project teams in BIM and assisting with development of the cost plan.
As a Planner you will develop and implement project solutions, recording progress and setting the course for the short, medium and long term project delivery.
Working alongside their Heads of Delivery, Project Managers, Construction Managers, Engineers and Supervisors, you will proactively engage with the entire team, gaining vital experience of all roles involved in the construction process.
In addition, you will work closely with the Design and Operational teams, as well as the commercial function who will help to ensure cost controls are in place and monitored. When interacting with their clients, you will be an ambassador for the company

Relevant CSCS Card
A degree, or HND in a relevant subject is desirable, as is Professional membership of one or more of the following: RICS/CIOB/RIBA/ICE/CIBSE
