The Role:
Due to continued expansion, we are seeking to recruit a Mechanical and/or Electrical Estimator/Proposals Engineer, to be based at our Head Office in Southampton. The Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates, together with the preparation of the necessary technical and commercial submission documentation for a wide variety of M&E Engineering projects across the UK and overseas. Applicants should have a background in estimating M&E projects as well as ideally having a mechanical or electrical engineering background, with a working knowledge of the related electrical and ICA elements.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
* Report to the Estimating and Bid Manager, programme and manage own workload within the MEICA estimating team
* Prepare multi-discipline proposals for the Process & Water, Energy, Defence, Oil & Gas and Nuclear sectors
* Comply fully with the documented company tendering procedures
* Read and fully understand client specifications and drawings
* Understand documentation required for formal submissions
* Ascertain preliminary and detailed project requirements and solutions, including programmes and value engineering solutions
* Liaison with the ‘in-house’ M&E design team and project delivery teams for each sector as necessary
* Prepare material, labour, plant and subcontractor cost analysis spreadsheets
* Prepare preliminary tender programmes
* Organise and partake in bid initiation, technical and commercial review meetings and subsequent follow up meeting with technical and commercial directors.
* Present the cost estimate in full detail to management for review and final approval. The Role
The variety in this role is endless! Working mainly on long term framework agreements that can have anywhere up to 60 live jobs across the Southern part of the UK running concurrently.
The works mainly consist of building repair works, platform resurfacings, signal box refurbishments, canopy repairs and Mechanical and Electrical jobs including lighting.
This role will be on a high volume, low value framework which will require you to actively overcome challenges. As the work is high volume there will be an expectation to complete assigned tasks competently, but at speed.
The work is largely civil engineering including grit lasting, bridges and platform refurbishments and some building works. The building element is likely to include things such as level crossing repairs as well as other minor works.
You will need to take instruction from the commercial team and their assistants and create accurate cost value reports for the senior commercial team and the end client.

Your new role

Mechanical Estimator / Estimating Manager - £45,000 - 60,000 + Car - Northampton - Building Services (HVAC)
Your new company
A medium sized Mechanical Contractor based in Northampton are looking for a Senior Mechanical Estimator / Estimating Manager.
They design and install mechanical and electrical services on construction projects in all major sectors. Working with local authority and local contractors.
Your new role
This is a hands-on role with a responsibility for the production of mechanical tenders for both pre-designed and design & construct projects.
The role is to breakdown client enquiries, organise or complete the required surveys and prepare detailed Mechanical estimates, tenders and quotations to ensure that opportunities are being accurately estimated competitively, successfully and profitably.
You will support the Business in client meetings and estimation/tender presentations to help secure tendered opportunities.
Using relevant industry experience, you will be expected to help develop and refine the estimation process to improve efficiency, clarity, and accuracy while reducing overall costs.
What you'll need to succeed
Solid understanding of Mechanical estimating and previous experience in the construction industry, ideally as an estimator in a similar role (values ranging from £1-2million)
Established background in Estimating on a range of mechanical services projects
Mechanical design experience would be preferable (design & build projects)
Experience using estimation or cypher software
The ability to plan workload for themselves with others to ensure delivery to client deadlines

Due to company growth, they need to take on a Mechanical Estimator to fulfil duties that have previously been split by senior members of the team.
Our client specialises in small-medium sized commercial upgrade projects, typically between £50k and £200k, although they have been quoting some larger jobs up to £1M for key accounts.
We don't need a mechanical estimator from a major projects background, but we do need someone who is used to working in a fast-paced building services environment, managing multiple quotes at any one time.
We are flexible on the salary for the Mechanical Estimator within reason. Please bear in mind this is a growing company looking to expand it's presence in the SE and their will be significant opportunity to grow and develop your career as the company progresses

This Contractor specialises in the Design, Installation and Maintenance of heating, air conditioning, ventilation, drainage, plumbing and electrical solutions for the Residential, Hotel, Care Homes, Student Accommodation, Leisure and Commercial sectors., up to the value of £30M.
The role of Senior Mechanical Estimator has come available due to the expansion of the business and the dramatic increase in work load, and requires an individual of great experience and professionalism
The requires the successful individual ;
• To complete tenders utilising estimation software.
• To present tender for adjudication by Directors providing all labour/material/prelim analysis
• To complete Tender analysis forms as requested by Design Manager
• To produce accurate and concise tender letters
• To chase tendered work and report outcome to Managers
• To assist with training of apprentices
• To assist contracts team during project installations
• To carry out tasks complying with Company Management Policy and Quality Systems
• To attend design meetings maintaining communication levels with all design team
• To identify design risks whilst carrying out design and inform the design team.
• To carry out Estimation database changes as requested by Managers / Directors.
• Carry out estimates to meet relevant deadlines
• Maintain and update the Estimation database
